I'll be tandem nursing soon...

posted 3rd Jul '12
What am I in store for? I have a 2.5 yr old (33 months) that, right now, nurses before bed and since I've been home, before nap too. I'm sure the experience (and the adjustment) is different for everyone but what have your experiences been? I'll also be returning to work after 6 weeks and pumping for baby only.

I have no advice since I don't breast feed. My friend does tandem feedings between all THREE of her children (oldest is 3, middle is 2, and she just had her youngest over the weekend). .

Good luck!

I didn't tandem nurse, but I nursed my son through most of my pregnancy with my now 1 year old daughter. I had to stop because it was causing me to contract and my milk supply started going away. Good luck to you.

I'm exhausted just thinking about that! Lol but that must be an amazing experience. Thanks

haha yeah, and she was running a daycare. She is always stressed right the eff out, but whatever somehow she likes playing super mom. I couldn't do it, there would be no "me" time in the middle of the chaos.

My first was almost 22 months when her brother was born. He nursed frequently. Before he was born, she nursed 3 times a day (morning, after work and before bed). After he was born, she wanted to nurse all the time through the day (she slept through the night), I ended up restricting her to about 5 times a day because I was overwhelmed.

Sometimes I would nurse them together, sometimes separately. I found the sensations a little overwhelming when they nursed together so I would often watch TV at the same time.

Now, my son is 21.5 months old. Still nurses frequently. My daughter (age 3.5 years now) still nurses 4-6 times a day.

Most of the time I love it. Sometimes I wish they would wean, or at least cut down on the frequency.

I did not go back to work after my second was born, so I don't have any advice for you.

Best of luck!

My milk dried up around 14ish weeks I think and then started coming back around 20. I've always gotten contractions with it but never anything concerning (and they didn't last beyond nursing) now it gives me MEAN ctx but I'm 38 weeks. Thanks for the luck

There's gotta be a balance.

Thank you! I've had those exact feelings about my one nursling lol. Especially around his 2nd birthday. He cut back shortly after that though. I know it's definitely going to be an adjustment but he's got a good understanding when you tell him something so if I need a break, there's a possibility I could explain that sister comes first because she can't have all our yummy food yet and he might go with it. At least if I need him to cut back. He almost NEVER nurses if we're not in bed right now.

woo let me know how it goes, I'll be in the same boat. Luke has been wanting to nurse almost non-stop lately. I don't know what's going on with him but it's almost constant lately.

But I'm due in September so I'm curious to know how this will go as well. . .

Definitely!
As for right now, could it be you're getting colostrum back in now and he's excited there's something there?

There seems to be lots of milk, I think you're right, the taste is probably is changing. That is probably it, but it's every time I sit down lately all he wants is Na-Na.
