I know when I got soap in my mouth or a wooden spoon to the ass when I was a kid it never taught me not to do things, it actually made me more mad lol. So I don't really believe hitting will accomplish teaching a kid right from wrong imo.

That would be a bad way to address that situation. You want a child to respect you because you're older and wiser, not "because I'm the boss."

For everyone saying hitting is not there right way. It worked in my family (brothers, sister, cousins) are parents hit us for the bad things we did and when we act up they just gave us a look or said they going to hit us and we stopped. We all knew how to act towards our parents and in public. And even my nieces and nephews and cousins kids today have not gotten hit a lot because after the 1st few times they knew how to act. So it works for us. So I rather hit a few times and have a well behavied child then a child running around slapping and throwing tantrums in public or even at home. And like I said before everyone disciplines differently.

Yes those are the only options lol. Personally i'd rather my child respect me and behave because she wants to not just while mom is around and she's afraid of the potential hitting.

If you choose to do it, the law is on your side.

But there are many more effective ways to get the same points across, that don't involve physically hitting, with the vast majority of children.

I'm not going to hit her for everything she does wrong. I'm not going to start even thinking about hitting till she can understand why I'm telling her not to or what no means. I will try time out 3 times if all fails a little hit never hurt no one. And hopefully the look thing works because my mom never hit me but the look she gave me I knew to stop lol.

The only thing physical punishment teaches a child is that it's okay to hit.

I had a young girl in my daycare who thought if a child was doing something she didn't like she could hit them, her parents spanked her.

It sends the message that "hey mom and dad spank me when I do something wrong, It's okay for me to do that when someone is doing something I thnk is wrong"

Poor thing had no friends because the kids couldn't trust her.
