Expired carseat?

I care about the safety of ALL children that ride in my car. My godbrother who is only 4 years old is here for a month and his mom left a car seat that looks like its ready to fall apart. How can I check if its expired? I have looked everywhere and only thing I found that can indicate any type of date is this circle thing with numbers on it and it has an arrow pointing to the 8 and by the middle of the circle is the numbers 05. I can tell the carseat is old because I havent seen one like this in forever. Here is a kinda blurry pic of him playing in his moms truck in it.


He keeps crying to ride in it but I wont let him I went and bought him a booster seat.

There aren't any stickers on the seat or a date stamped in the plastic? Do you know what company made it?

That car seat is extremely unsafe, they are no longer made for a reason. The bar, the harness, it's all a death trap. Car seats usually expire 6 years after DOM. At 4 he should be in a 5 point harness, though I believe most states legally allow them at 4.

They don't even sell that style any more! My younger siblings where in those in the 1990's! Cut the straps and throw it out!

The last time they made seats like that was in 2008 so it is possible its not expired but more the likely it is. And that seat is EXTREMELY unsafe. If I was you I'd go pick up a cheap cosco seat for him

That's a dangerous seat. It needs to go. Yikes where did she dig that up from.


You can get a seat for 40 bucks from walmart that is safe.

No stickers and the circle with the numbers on it is stamped in the plastic

Yea its my godmom and it was passed down from his older brother who is now 7 years old.

The circle with numbers looks like this but the arrow is pointing to the 8 and instead of 07 it says 05

Her oldest son is 7 and he was born in 05 and I think its his old car seat

It's most likely expired then. Most seats only last 6 years from when it was made and we don't know how long it sat on a store shelf before it was sold.

And as others said that type of seat was discontinued a few years back due to the fact they cause a lot of internal injuries. Definitely let the mama know about all these issues so she can get a new seat for him if you don't plan on giving her the one you got him.

Yea ive been telling her about him needing a booster seat for a year. I understand him sitting in it at 2 or maybe even 3 but he is 4 now and It doesnt even buckle anymore

He should still be harnessed in a harnessed booster. Law is 4 yrs for seatbelt booster but extended harnessing is safest.
