I had issues with the pill (hormonal nut case that couldn't stop crying) from a friend and my research and several doctors I was told the copper t increases your menstral flow as well as any pre-exsisiting cramps, the mirena due to the small dose hormones will slow and sometimes stop your period as it prevents the lining from being able to adhere to the uterine wall properly, so it stops your cramps. I'd recommend researching both, I was told I couldn't have the copper one due to my cramps or heavy flow as it would make it worse. I felt crampy the day I got it inserted and didn't have a single issue until my body kicked it out but I also had not given birth when I got it to my uterus wasn't so inviting. Talk to your dr about pros and cons about which would be best for you. We obviously all have our biased views on here.
My friend who had the copper who got a heavier period and worse cramps couldn't have the mirena due to pelvic fibroids and cysts, but she got a 2nd one put in after the 5 year term (they can last ten but recommend changing every five years) so it couldn't have been that bad
