LO is thinking... "yay mommy is doing something interesting". He's not old enough to cognitively process what it "means". You should inform yourself some on child development. I'm not saying this to be rude or talk down... I promise. But when I feel super frustrated with my child, it a lot to understand him better. Knowing the way he thinks in terms of his development and where he is at, will better help you in areas like this. Or really in any area. Sometimes my son screams/cry for things he wants, he's two. It annoys the smurf out of me and it overwhelms me very quickly. But knowing that he is two, he doesn't have the proper language skills yet (which is normal) and he doesn't have self control like that to be nice when he really really want something, it helps us understand eachother better. Mesh well. You should not be having behavioral struggles this early. It's too early to even tell if that is an issue.

You're in for a god awful couple of years if you think a 10 month old can possibly be that bad. Seriously, you're overestimating a 10 month olds ability to understand.

He is 10 months old. He doesn't understand you counting to 3, he is too young or timeouts. Redirect him. How do you expect him to know hitting is wrong when his mom is hitting him? He is a baby, stop expecting him to understand and do everything you want...and stop hitting him. Damn.

As others have said, he's only 10 months old. A baby is not going to understand why you are spanking him. Of course you should tell him no, but then take the time to get him into a different activity. If he tries to grab something he shouldn't, take it away and put it where he can't get it. If he hits, tell him no and give him something to do. He is too young for smacking his butt, and smacking his hands is not going to do a damn thing at any age. You think he has behavior problems? No, he is just trying to figure out what he can do. He's probably smacking you for attention.
