Chlamydia for years?

posted 30th Jun '12
my soon to be SIL just called me crying and pretty much frantic..my BIL has chlamydia and just found out. He is blaming her- she's only been with him for the last 6 years, and doesn't think he's cheated. The doctor told her it can be "silent" for years with no symptoms and he could've had it all along, but he doesn't believe it. She just had a pap smear a month and a half ago and says that it all came back normal....so could that silent thing be true? orrrr?? anyone know- I have googled, but can't seem to find an answer from anything reputable.

A friend of mine was raped and tested negative for a couple years after and hadn't been with anyone since the rape (so she says) and this past October she tested positive for it

Yes many stds can be dormant for years. But he shouldn't be mad at her if he has it and she doesn't......

it is true, you might not even know it is there, the symptoms are really mild

i had it once apon a time, and never even knew until
someone told me that they had gotten it from someone i slept with.

and she may still have it they don't do an std check during pap's unless you ask for it.

It's more uncommon for male to have it and not know, but it's for sure possible. That sucks.

Yes, Chlamydia CAN be dormant for years, just like herpes can. She will probably have it as well, and unfortunately hers can go undetected for years as well. I really suggest she schedules a visit to the GYN and discuss it with them because Chlamydia can wreak havoc even when dormant.
