early labor

so the other day i was at work and i was sitting at my desk and i started feeling some pretty strong cramps. well this isnt my first pregnancy so i knew something was up. I kinda brushed it off for a few hours then they started getting worse. i decided that it would probably be a good idea to call my dr since i am only 34 weeks pregnant. i called my dr and they said that i should come in to the dr. i went into the dr and the dr said that i was having contractions but they were mild. i had to be on the machine for 30 minutes to track contractions. i only had a few. my dr then checked me and told me that i had started to dialate and efface. he said that I am 1cm [which isnt much] and 50% effaced. He told me that i would need to be on some meds from now until the end of my pregnancy. he told me it was called procardia. i have been taking it but it doesnt seem to help at all. i am still cramping up but they arent consistent and arent as paiinful as they were.

have any of you ladies ever been on procardia?
did it work for you?

I'm supposed to be. I was on it while I was in the hospital at 23 and 25 weeks for preterm labor. It worked for me.

I just choose NOT to take it, because I HATE the way it makes me feel. I get dizzy, and nauseous, and feel like I can't breathe, etc.

If I'm cramping a lot or contracting, I will take one, but other than that, I don't.

i have only been taking it for 24 hours now and i am still cramping pretty bad. they arent too painful but i am nervous that i am still going to go into labor even with the medicine. it doesnt really affect me to much i get a little dizzy but i just ignore it.

I have been having contractions off and on for the last three weeks and at my appt on Thursday they checked me and I was 80% effaced and I am only 32 weeks along so they put me on Procardia. I started it that day and I am still having contractions off and on but they aren't as bad. I was put on bed rest also. I was told that I might feel some pressure and light contractions still but if it got too bad to get to the hospital ASAP and be checked because it might mean that it isnt working for me. We r due the same day and I've been havin mild contractions to. I was jus havin really bad cramps and they were kind of strong and lasted a couple mins but now gne, haven't started back up again tho. This is my first pregnancy so I've never been on that medicine b4. Hope all is well with u and ur LO!

Ok.. Im 35 weeks and when i went to the dr a few days ago he said that her head was way down and that i was 70% effaced.. so should i have been put on a med? or how does that work... srry first baby, lots of questions.

im not sure why your dr wouldnt have put you on that meds. did he say if you are dialated at all or just effaced?

Im not completely sure I have been high risk my entire pregnancy and went into labor a few times already.

He didnt say anything about dialation..just that i was 70% effaced. and i have been measuring ahead. I was 34 weeks 5 days when i had my dr appt. and i was measuring 36 1/2 weeks.. so idk

No, if you're not contracting, you don't need to be on anything.

I do have contractions... just not real frequent ones.

are you having braxton hicks contractions? i have those very frequently. i only knew that i was having real contractions because i was having period cramps and they were about 10 minutes apart consistently.

More than likely, you're fine. If they're not frequent enough and strong enough to dilate your cervix (which if you were, I'm sure he'd have said something), then you have nothing to worry about. Just cause she's head down and you're effacing doesn't mean much.

You're welcome.   I remember being completely clueless my first pregnancy, it's nice to have someone to ask questions to, I didn't have that.
