What is middle class?

posted 30th Jun '12
Just wondering, what is considered middle class where you live? I know it varies by state...Texas would be a lower number compared to NY or California.. and is that number based upon family size?

i pretty much thought it was when you can afford what you need, and have some extra. not living from paycheck to paycheck, not using any assistance that kind of thing, maybe even some savings.

idk about actual number, though...

yeah I figured that much...I guess I'm just wondering is there a specific number? or a specific range? there are people who may only make 30 grand a yr but depending upon their financial choices might be better off than someone making 100 grand a yr lol

well you said it but that would depend on where you are and how many you are supporting.

we make about 50K together, with just us two and our son, live comfortably but dont have too much savings and would be screwed if one of our cars died....
so without looking anything up i would think that we were lower/middle class for WNY

The city I live in, in CA, the average income is 80,000. That is considered the middle class.

Not really sure.
I think it depends on where you live and such.
Here's a pic I pulled up off of wiki (not completely reliable, but the best I've found):

We get assistance but we're not exactly lower class. We're right on the line of working/lower middle.
