Discipline help

My 14 month old is a complete terror at times. She is the most stubborn and strong willed person I have ever met. She doesn't listen to me at all. First few times I tell her no and move her away. That doesn't normally work so I will pop her hand and tell her no. When that doesn't work I'll lightly pop her butt and tell her no. She will usually stop then. Most of the time she will be back at it again. It's gotten to the point where I can't even sit down on the computer. She will grab my leg to turn the computer chair. If I pick her up she will try to climb on the desk, hit the monitor, and grab stuff. Earlier today she smacked the keyboard off the desk. I know she knows certain things are bad. I'll walk around the corner and she'll throw whatever she has down. A few times she has walked up and smacked us for no reason. I am getting tired and this is an all day fight. My mom suggested time out but I don't know if she is old enough. I need some suggestions before I go crazy.

I guess I'm not use to this since my oldest was so well behaved. I do spend as much time with her as possible. We'll go outside when it isn't to hot, play with toys, and occasionally lay on the couch and watch tv. I can be up cleaning, watching tv, anything else and she has no problem with it.

She sounds like she's 14 months old. Personally, I found that age more challenging than any other age so far (my daughter is almost three). She is exploring her world the only way she knows how. She needs consistent monitoring and redirection. Don't pop her hand and butt for exploring; she doesn't know any better yet. Provide her lots of stimulation - toys, music, outdoor play, etc.

If I pop her hand or butt it's for things such as digging in the trash(her favorite), throwing things, or things that wouldn't be safe. She loves books but she likes to tear them up too. I've realized that some things just aren't worth it and let it go. I'm glad my oldest was such a good baby!
