smoking while pregnant

I am 24 weeks pregnant and a smoker. I have been trying to quit but being under the pressure and stress i am taking care of my ill half dying mother, smoking is all that calms my nerves. I can't use the quit smoking inhaler but yet cant give it up cold turkey either. I have cut back from a pack a day to it lasting me 2 days. Any ideas on how to quit or how it will affect my baby if i don't?

Don't quit cold turkey.Quit little by little.It cans stress you and the baby out.

It causes low birth weight, and they are higher risk for having asthma.

Can you use patches while pregnant?

It's good that you have reduced your intake

i just did it cold turkey. it was not about me anymore.you could have a small sickly baby or your baby could be fine. there is a whole mess of risk's

Cut down, I quit cold turkey with this one and everything has been fine.

Cut down with my first, was only smoking 4 a day then quit at 16 weeks, I quit at 7 weeks with this one.

i smoked with my first the whole pregnancy. pretty sure she came out addicted to them after i had her cuz the first three days were horrid. as far as health, shes only ever been sick 1 time out of 2 years, extremely heathly and never have had any breathing problems. this time around, i am trying to quit, super ridiculously hard for me..but i have cut back. which is better than nothing. still in a working process.

For real, no matter how much I want to smoke, it's NOT about me! I can wait another 5 months.

im in the same boat..i will be 24 weeks monday an i smoke also. i was told not to quit cold turkey because of stressin the baby out. i can cause low birth weight of the baby an possibly preterm birth..i knw how u feel..been tryin to quit but the stress from tryin to quit is makin it harder.

That still seems like a lot. I'd just keep cutting back as much as possible. It's not good for you or baby to quit cold turkey right now.

I quit when I. was 6 weeks pregnant and seen my little girls heart beating. I smoked right before the ultrasound and after I didn't smoke again until she was 6 weeks old. What I did was sucked on a lot of suckers for the first few weeks and then after that is was pretty easy for me. Once the first month passes its not that bad but getting through that month is pretty hard. I also slept a lot. I would not enter a gas station and tried to stay away from people who smoke. I wish you the best. It is very hard to stop but just think about that little one inside of you

I quit the day I found out. Went from a pack a day to nothing. It was HELL for about 3 weeks and I was a total bitch. It was bad enough I was poisoning myself, I didn't want to pass all those chemicals to my LO. I would just try to smoke one less cigarette a day until you're down to zero since you can't quit cold turkey.

Just try to do one less every few days , hang in there you are making an effort with something that is pretty addicting so you have to take it step by step .
