pyloric stenosis

posted 30th Jun '12
Is anyone familiar with this condition?
Finding a lot of symptoms similar to acid reflux so equally as confused as I was before. I'm hoping my sons doctor bucks up and writes the referral to a GI Monday or I'll be finding a new dr that will.
Just wondering what I may be up against here.

My SO had it as a baby and the only thing my future MIL told me was that it came with projectile vomiting. It runs n families and my doctor told me it wouldn't show up until about 3 months. He had to have surgery to correct the condition.

he was diagnosed with failure to thrive (losing weight) a month ago but since then has gained 4 pounds when we switched to strictly formula. He has projectile vomited only 3 times in the past month, but spits up anytime he doesn't have gripe water right before or right after eating. sometimes an hour to an hour and a half after eating w/o gripe water.

Sounds like reflux. especially if he holds the food with gripe water.

That's what I'm thinking.

his bowel movements have NEVER been "normal" ever since he was born. He had the black bm twice and ever since then it's always been either light or dark green loose or diarrhea. sometimes right after I would change him he would have a bm that was yellow w/ curds.
while breastfeeding for the first month he would have a bm 1-2 times every time he would eat. now with formula it's every 1-3 days.

My future MIL told me that it was everything my SO ate so from what I know it doesn't sound like pyloric stenosis.

That is all very normal.

That's what I'm half-way thinking. My nephew and daughter both had acid reflux and in a lot of ways it seems very similar to how they were, but a little more dramatic with the abdominal pain/tightening.
I still had my daughters wedge for acid reflux and took it upon myself to have him sleep in there, it hasn't made much of a difference which has surprised me. Of course, it's only been a week trying that.

He may need something more, like AR Formula, or even medication like Zantac
