Quoting Car-Car:“ well good luck girlie!!!! I think you can do it!!! Did you take any labor classes or anything?”
nope. I wanted to but my fiancee works two jobs and I had no transportation and I don't want to end up getting stuck at the hospital waiting for a ride.
I hope I can do ok, even though I don't know how to do any of the breathing techniques or anything.

I'm sure you will do fine. People had babies for years in the their homes with no one there to tell them what to do! Your body will tell you what to do. One thing I know is try (i know its hard) to not tense up too much when you are having contractions. This is where the breathing treatments come in and your are supposed to breath through the contractions.by tensing up, you cause your body to work against itself. This is one of the reasons I hated having pain meds, I was so doped up, that I couldn't control myself and so naturally I was tensing up and fighting labor. It made the whole process take so much longer! Ultimately I had to have an epidural, my body needed to relax. However, if they wouldn't have given me the original pain meds things might have been different. I also don't like taking meds unless I have to, tylenol included, so I don't have a very high tolerance and the pain meds they gave me MESSED me up! They didnt help with the pain though, they just made me lose control.

I never had morning sickness too bad...but I did get very nausetaed during labor but never ended up throwing up...during transition.

I felt nauseous when I hit transition. Usually if someone is going to throw up it'll be at that point in labor. Its one of the signs that you're goinginto transition.

If you're not taking childbirth classes I suggest you go to your library and borrow The Birth Book by William and Martha Sears. It helped me more than my classes did. Birthing From Within is good too.

I got to have my second baby without any needles in my arms. My hospital routinely does a hep lock and I requested to go without since my first labor was normal. You'd be surrprised how your body kicks into automatic and just does everything. Relax your muscles and let your belly hang like you're 11 months pregnant, it really does take away a large amount of pain.
Also I've read calcium decreases muscular pain. Take enough milk, cheese, and tablets to equal 2,000mg as soon as you know its labor before you go to the hospital and its supposed to help.

I think nausea and vomiting are pretty common during the transition phase of labor.I had my baby on Tues, and went through transition in the car on the way to the hospital...barfing out the window the whole way there.

I started vomiting in the car on the way to the hospital. This as 4:45 a.m. and I had nothing in my stomach, so it wasn't from eating. This happened to my mom and sister as well. I guess pain can cause vomiting! It was really bad, almost as bad as the pain, because I hate throwing up and when you are throwing up and having contractions it is the worst! When I got the epidural, the vomiting stopped. I was so relieved! My sister had told me the only thing that was able to stop her vomiting was the epidural.I have read that vomiting is very common when you are in a transitional phase of labor. I wish I could have held out on theepidural to see if the vomiting would have passed, because I ended up with a C-section, but I couldn't stand thevomiting. I asked my doc if they can give you meds for just vomiting, and Iguess they can....
