hip problems

posted 9th May
at my last OB appt we had some extra time - so the doc was letting me tell him EVERYTHING i was worried about (i bet re wished he hadnt done that like 30 minutes into my list!! hahha). so i stand up and pop both of my hips out of place by rocking side to side. its rather freaky looking but has never cause any pain or problems. but it def scared him - so he's sending me to a hip specialist. he wants to make sure that my hips are stable and strong enough to endure a vaginal delivery. he called it hip dysplasia but when i look it up online the only stuff i can find is for children and babies... does anyone else's hips pop in/out of socket easily? do you know where i can find info on adult hip dysplasia? any info you can give or share about urself will be a huge help!

My hips do the same thing. I had a vbac with my second and my hips didn't give me any trouble. Both of my babies were diagnosed with DDH at 2 days old. (developmental dysplasia of the hip....google that instead of "hip dysplasia" or you get stuff about dogs  Luckily they both were treated with harnesses and a brace....no surgery!) It can be a genetic condition, so if you have it make sure the pediatrician really checks baby's hips for a "clunk" sound after birth. They may not find it that first day, and if it turns out you have it, make sure your pediatrician has your bambino in for an ultrasound. They will have it around 2 weeks old and they could care less. I don't mean to scare you, but it is a condition that is treated very easily and can lead to surgery if not treated very soon after birth. I have been putting off getting my hips checked out.....waiting until the arrival of #3  Good luck! Keep us updated.

I have hip dysplasia but my bones don't come out of their sockets without pain! I've had constant and sometimes agonising pain in my hips and lower back since I was 12. I'm pregnant now and I notice that things are moving around making it uncomfortable; I'm staying positive that if I put my mind to having a natural child birth where my hips will be strong enough, then they will be!
Don't worry too much about the doctor thinking you're not able to deliver vaginally because of this...if you think you can, then you shouldn't have an issue.

I have hip dysplasia and had surgery to fix it in 2004. Which the surgery didnt really do much, they still pop. Even more so now that I'm preg. But after discussing my options with my doctor he told me not to worry about having a vaginal delivery, worry about it will only make it worse. He also recommened that I go see a chiropracter to work with my hips and get them ready for delivery. You should discuss seeing a chriopracter with your doctor, maybe of them specialise in pregnancys. Not only will it help with your hips, but also any back pain that you may have because of the hip dysplasia!

thanks so much for ur responses girls! i went to the orthopedic surgeon and he said that we were A-OK for a vag. delivery!! YAY!

he did say that i needed to make an appointment for after the baby comes to get some xrays and see if we need to do something to fix it - but that it will be fine for now   this is SUCH good news!
