Dr. Jekyl, Mr. Hyde?

I have a huge problem with my husband. Since Lilian was born he never got up in the middle of the night to help change her or rock her back to sleep...etc. I didn't mind too much although I know it would be nice to have extra help.

Anyway, he has been saying how he really wants to help me by getting up in the middle of the night to help me out. He told me to just keep trying to wake him up. I told him I didn't want to deal with trying to wake him up because at night he turns into another person.

So last night after I fed Lilian and put her in her crib I walked into thte bedroom and layed down. Two or three minutes later Lilian started to cry a lot and I figured she dropped her nook and couldn't get it back in her mouth (this is a common thing for her!) and tried to wake up my husband. He then proceeded to YELL at me and then he pushed me off the bed. Luckily the blanket fell with me and I didn't get hurt. Then when I left to go to Lilians room he threw laundry at me.   When I went back into the bedroom he was gone so I locked the door behind me because he was so angry. He started pounding the door. It was nuts.

It might sound bad but he's not like this at all during the day. He turns into another person at night. I don't know what to do.

Any ideas on how to deal??

Oh wow..I have no clue what you can do..Maybe just stick to not waking him up....I wonder why he is like that...

Yeah I know. I told him I don't want to wake him up anymore because I'm afriad he'll hurt the baby. He said "I wouldn't do that" but he'd hurt me and not her??

perhaps he needs to tell his doctor about this. Sounds like he may still be asleep when he is doing these things? (Even if his eyes are open...)

Yeah that is the thing. Sometimes he remembers what he did sometimes he doesn't. He remembers last night kind of but I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I made a big deal about it...


Any thoughts on what kind of doctor should he see?? Our family doctor?

Sally, I'd talk to your doctor. That sounds like a sleep disorder.

I think that sounds like a sleep disorder. Maybe he should go see your family doctor and he can be referred to a sleep specialist.

Jason is the exact same way, but Jason also has PTSD.

I would suggest taking him to your family dr and they will probably refer you to a sleep specialist like someone else suggested...Sorry you are having to deal with that, how scary!

I'm so sorry, that is tough! I don't have anything to offer, but I hope you can find something that helps from a doc! For now though, maybe just let him be at night! Sorry love!
