Yes, I would definitely get the water shoes and my daughter ate the sand, lol. I thought after her trying it for the first time she would not like and spit it out...nope, homegirl loves it! She only ate it the first time we ever took her to the beach when she was 13 months and she's two now and doesn't eat it. Good luck!

A little sand won't hurt her, and neither will a little saltwater lol.
My best tip is to not be cheap with the sunscreen. I used a cheap off-brand, and it was VERY sticky- not good for a toddler at the beach. I used it on myself, and still had sand all over my face after rinsing off in the ocean.
ETA: It did it's job well, DD didn't burn- but it was not good beach sunscreen.

Definitely get water shoes. The sand will be hot not only that, but fishing hooks in the water, or sand, or people putting cigarettes out, or knives, anything. Yeah ehhhhh. My daughter didnt try to eat the sand, she actually hated the sand, and watch out for kids running and splashing it everywhere. One kid kicked sad right into my daughters face, about had a smurf fit. But yes water shoes, sunscreen, and probably a hat. I don't know how hot it is there, but it's 108 today here.

A hat is great, in case you miss a spot on on the face with sunscreen.

I brought Owen to the beach when he was just about 17 months, he loved it! We didn't go in the water because it's too cold in Oregon, but we just brought a giant bag of sand toys and he was happy. He loved running away from us, so we spent the majority of our time chasing him down the beach, luckily it wasn't very crowded.
He wore his sandals that are ok to get wet. I also heard there's a trick to getting sand off your skin, sprinkle on some baby powder and just wipe off.
