breast and formula feeding?????

posted 29th Jun '12
Im pregnant with my third baby so i guess i should know this but ...... i dont lol
i breast fed both of my girls but i had a few problems with not producing enough milk for my youngest so as much as it upset me i moved her onto formula milk after about 6 weeks, what i was wondering is can you breastfeed and formula feed together???? im worried about not producing enough milk this time around. Any advise/help would be great.
thanks   xx

Yes honey you can!!! I had to do both with my son who is now 6. You can mix your breast milk with the formula...good luck and congrats....I gave birth to my daughter 16 hours ago

you can, but it would be a lot easier for you and healthier for baby if you just breastfed.
If you bottle-feed and want to keep a supply you'll have to pump every time she gets a bottle.

Were you feeding on demand with your daughters? How did you know you weren't producing?

I feel amazing....I'm snuggling here now! Love that baby smell!!! Don't worry Mommy you will be able to give your baby whatever breast milk you can. I am still in the hospital and the nurse just came and got my chunky monkey princess and she said the same thing that they do it all the times for moms that are having trouble feeding.

this chunky monkey princess weighed in at 9 lbs 10 oz. I only gained 20lbs and even the dr. was shocked at her size but she is gorgeous and 20 " long.

I do it without any issue. Just make sure you strictly breastfeed until it is well established, at least 6 weeks. DD was EBF'd until 3 1/2 months, now she has formula during the day, boob sometimes during the day and boob at night. It started with me weaning her to formula because my breastmilk made her really gassy but I never fully weaned and what we do right now works really well for us. I have no issues with supply or anything and we've been doing this for about 2 and a half months (she will be 6 mo on July 10th).

i had no issues at all with my first, i have to say i found it a walk in the park and loved the skin on skin contact knowing i was giving her the best start possible. but like i say my youngest was constantly hungry, she was like a bottomless pit lol!!! It was like i didnt have enough time to fill back up between feeds.... after 3-4 hours she would get half of what she actually needed/wanted.
Fingers crossed everything will run smoothly this time round xx
