hearing aid case color

posted 29th Jun '12
So I get to choose the color of my son's hearing aid.

He's 2 right now, and the hearing aid should last him about 5 years, so he'll be in school while he's still using it.

I was going to choose the beige/skin colored one, but are they like braces?
Where, it's "cool" to have colored ones?

I thought the royal blue one was pretty cool, but don't want him to feel weird or something once he's in school if his aid is colored

My now 7 year old nephew had blue hearing aids last time I knew. We went to the zoo years back and a few other kids (that needed hearing aids) had colored hearing aids too!

Well, that's good to know! They even had camouflage and leopard and zebra print ones! lol..

Did he like it?

Thanks for the reply, makes me feel more confident about choosing the blue one

Me & hubby got custom fit ear plugs at a local gun show recently, they are made from the same stuff hearing aids are made from (the custom mold ear part). I got hot pink and black swirl, hubby got neon green & black swirl!

nephew has had his hearing aids since around 2-3 also and will have them the rest of his life. He mainly wears them at school. He really doesn't know any different from them being colored blue or not, I don't think he even notices, lol

My friend has the skin colored one cause its what they could get and she wont where the aids or carry her case at all cause she is so scared the other kids will pick on her for being different( she was 12 at that time) i think it depends on the kid but colors would probally make them seem cooler... i dont really know

My 8 week old might get fitted next month, and from what I understand he will have for five years. I'm in the same boat not knowing what to pick, I have been thinking about this for weeks.

It's not like the beige ones will not show, I think color is a good
Idea it would make them seem more for kids and less like grandma/grandpa

My son had a classmate with hearing aids aged 6-7. They were hot pink and all the kids in her class were jealous lol. They all wanted a pair too! Last year he has a classmate with a cocklear *sp* implant. The kids were jealous and wanted one that year as well.

I think that at a young age, making it fun with colors your son will feel fine about his super cool hearing aids

I think you should get him the colored one! Kids are soooo attracted to stuff like that, so they'll all think it's pretty cool stuff!

thanks for the replies.... I settled for the blue ones!

I also have 45 days to change them if I don't like them for any reason, so that's good.

I think he'll like the color, for now. Once he's a little older I doubt he'll want to flash them, lol.

My daughter loves the fact that hers are pink. She also enjoys putting the hearing aid stickers on. The Octigon brand makes stickers for them so the kids can dress them up.

My daughter has clear molds with bright purple case.I think it looks cute because it makes it look less"grandpa-ish", and more"awesome and colorful. In the beginning I was concerned about people looking, but, now, I couldn't care less.I wear hearing aids too, and of course back then, they didn't have colored ones, only skin tone colors, and I would always hide them, because I was embarrassed.I got the purple ones bc I don't want Alani to be embarrassed but proud of them, ya know?
Here's a pic of them, they look bigger in the picture then in person.

then here is her smiling,

cute!!

I didn't even think about the clear molds. I got the "beige" one so it could blend with the ear better, but now looking at the pic I think the clear mold would have been better. We'll see, at least the mold is getting replaced a lot more often, so I'll have a chance to change it around.

I too was very concerned about people noticing at first with the loaner, but now I couldn't care less- which is why I opted for the colorful one

How old is she? My 2 year old still takes it out sometimes and plays with it, wondering when that habit is going to go away

The clear is awesome bc you can't even tell it's there!Alani will be 3 in August. She's very very stubborn, so I was surprised that she keeps them in good.In the beginning, it was bad, bc she wasn't used to them, and because she ran around and jumped all the time, we had to put the Huggie Aids on her to keep the hearing aids from falling off.But now she doesn't need them anymore. She's also good with taking them off before going into the bath or any type of water.Once in a while , I'll see her, and she has them off, and she puts them in the case, lol, bc like glasses, or hats , she gets tired of them, but I put them right back on her bc she needs to know she NEEDS them.
