every office is different, so I would ask what their procedure is. usually they recommend not going back because they listen better to others usually when moms and dads arent around. But they let us go back with DD. She was 3, although some dentists suggest going before a child turns 1. so that is also up to your dentist office. They tried to get xrays but she kept gagging on them so they didnt do them her first time. they probably wont do xrays on a younger child, only what they call a smile visit where they see the instuments, meet the dr., look at their mouth, etc. it all just varies depending on the particular dentist office.

my daughter went at 14 months for the first time. all they did was look at her teeth, count her teeth, brush her teeth, and address any concerns of the parents. it is kind of just to get the child aquianted (sp? i don't feel like googling! lol) when the office/dentist. and yes, me and my husband both went back with her.

We got a letter from the insurance company today saying that according to their records, DD was past due for a dental visit and they recommend that I make her an appointment. She's 16 months and her pedi has talked to me about it and told me I should take her around 3 years old. She only has 4 teeth so far, but for some reason I think she is kinda too young to go right now. Idk...

Make that 6 teeth now. I forgot about noticing both of her lateral teeth (I think thats what they are called, the ones right beside her top 2 front teeth) coming through today.

My daughter was 2 and my son was 3. Yes, I was allowed to be back in the room with them. My 2-yr old even had a cavity and let them take care of it. She did so great.
