Its just a plant.

have you heard of this book? Would you let you child read this book if you knew what it was about? What age would you feel it would be right for your child to learn about this plant. If you dont know what im talking about its a new childs book about weed.... Me i see nothing wrong with it.I just feel there is an age and a time that your child should learn about this. Better you then some friends.I would notlet a 10 year old know about i.tIi feel when they hit there teens it would be tmie.
It's Just a Plant is an illustrated children's book about marijuana. It follows the journey of a young girl as she learns about the plant from a diverse cast of characters including her parents, a local farmer, a doctor, and a police officer.
Marijuana can be difficult to talk about.
Many parents have tried marijuana, some still use it. Neither feel great about disclosing such histories (many duck the question), for fear that telling their kids might encourage them to experiment on their own.
Unfortunately, most "drug facts" that children learn in school are more frightening than educational, blaming pot for everything from teenage pregnancy to terrorism. A child's first awareness of drugs should come from a better source.
It's Just a Plant is a book for parents who want to educate their children about the complexities of pot in a thoughtful, fact-oriented manner.

Why bother writing a book about marijuana for kids?
Marijuana is around kids! Some children are trying their first "hit" of marijuana at ten and eleven years old, and awareness of the plant begins even earlier for many (whether through its heavy presence in pop culture or by simply opening their parent's door during "bedtime"). We think there is a way to safely educate children about drugs by satisfying their curiosity but without piquing their curiosity to try them.
Does It's Just a Plant advocate marijuana use for children?
No. It's Just a Plant explicitly addresses the potential harm of drug abuse and insists that marijuana is something not to be experimented with by children. As with books that teach children about sex, It's Just a Plant encourages parents to explore the topic and their children's questions about it, all the while reminding them that trying "pot" is an experience for responsible adults.
Should parents who don't use marijuana read this book?
It's Just a Plant is for all parents. The book is not about people who use marijuana or people who abstain (although it contains both); it is about marijuana, something that most children will encounter in their lives. Before they investigate on their own, shouldn't they be prepared with honest and thorough information? We can deter early use and abuse of drugs by opening channels of communication between children and their parents.

I'm watching, too. Honestly I don't know how I'd go about it. So I'd like to read some opinions on the matter as well.

I wasn't watching for drama or anything wanted to watch for opinions i'm not sure what i would do w/ a book like that or at what age it would be appropiate to let them read. but these days you'd prob. sit them down to read it and they'd say "i already know all about that"

This would entirely depend on the political aspect of the book. Is the book promoting marajuana use or is it just information. I mean as a mother I sensor just about anything my daughter is exposed to and a book about a drug is no exception. Now the title would suggest that this book promotes the use of the marajuana plant in one form or another. I mean hemp I can understand but doesn it promote smoking the drug. If it does there is no way in hell my daughter would be allowed to read that book Frankly I think theses kinds of topics need to be an open discution between child and parent not a book cause a book will not necesariy instil in my child the values that her father and I wish to instil in her.

Yeah my son knows that people smoke it. He's five...Its a good book for kids. Its important for them to know that some people use it, some people abuse it, and you can get in trouble for using it..
and the topic came up because his daddy smokes a tobacco pipe, and he saw gandalf and bilbo from lord of the rings smoking old toby
then he saw that blasted commercial where the dog tells the girl "i hate when you smoke weed"
It is just a plant, but some people use it for more than just its looks.

I wouldnt read a book to my kids that obviously isnt objective... its JUST a plant... no, its considered a gateway drug and is illegal... Illegal is illegal and I dont support my children breaking the law... what they choose to do after high school is their own business... but my kids know that drugs are innapropriate and will not be tolerated as long as I am the boss of them.
I talk to my kids about the dangers of drugs.. but my kids wont hear: "its just a plant, no harm , no foul"...
