I would def. let my child read this book. It's a great idea to teach kids that it is in fact just a plant. Kudos to the author and the publisher for actually publishing it. Children in the generation and the future ones need something like this.

poison ivy and oleander are just plants too. There are some plants we have to respect but avoid. Marijuana is one of them, according to my value system. So the minimizing of it being "just" a plant kind of puts me off. But when the time is right for the drug talks, the book might be a useful resource to put it into a good context. From what I've read *about* it, it doesn't seem to be promoting drug use among children. I'd have to read it myself before condoning or condemning.

I have definitely seen the cons of people who become addicted and obsessed with getting and being high, becoming ridiculously lazy and wasting tons of money. I find that to be a definite con. Not to mention that in my experience I understand the link as a "gateway drug" maybe not for everyone, but some people start experimenting and don't stop with just weed. Personally I don't enjoy talking to someone who is burnt either btw lol.

I don't think that I would be reading this book to my child either. Obviously Maurijuana is not dangerous as your hard core drugs , but it, as Sadie made the point, is illegal. As far as medicinal purposes go... it's not the only drug used medically. If you research it, Cocaine used to frequently be used as a topical numbing agent (not so much anymore...), Methamphetamine has been used in drugs for ADD, the treatment of narcolepsy (limited though because of the addiction and abuse that comes w/) and opiates (heroin is a synthetic opiate) are also used medically for pain. However, this doesn't mean that these drugs should be legal and available for abuse. Not to say that Maurijuana is on this level, because I don't believe it to be personally... but to me it makes sense why it is illegal. But in the long run, it doesn't really have to make sense to me lol. I kind of went off track here I know... but there were references to the medical uses so I had to post the other side! Like others have said, bottom line is it's not legal, and I would rather approach it from that angle with my child(ren).

imo!

Sure, I'd let him read it. Though, I don't anticipate having any difficulties talking about marijuana with my son.

heh

Heh. Pot doesn't make you go to prison. The government does.

Forgive my ignorance, and I haven't read through every post in this thread so you may have already answered this, but is the way you use marijuana legal in Canada? I'm assuming it is because you mentioned your doctor approved.

My parents were always open and honest with me, about everything. That's how I plan to be with my son.

I don't have a medical exemption, so my use is not legal. My doctor has said he'll be willing to sign an exemption form for me should my condition become one that the government allows an exemption for, but right now psych conditions aren't legally exempted.

Right now you can get a legal exemption for AIDS, Cancer, MS, Crohns, Epilepsy, Glaucoma. There might be other conditions. I understand people are pushing to have psych conditions also exempted, but they're not as of now, from my understanding. The doctor could fill the paperwork out, but the government would probably deny it, as of now.

I'd kill my kids for underage drinking too...

I know that kids are going to do shit behind a parents back... its a right of passage of sorts.. but if I lay a thick enough moral foundation, I'd hope they will find their way back...

What they do as an adult is their own business... I just want to make sure they get to adulthood in one piece...and a clean record...lol
