Did you know your daughter is more likely to to take steriods when shes involved in sports? or she could become bulimic, anorexic, to look more like her friends?
Just because she's involved in sports, doesn't make her safe.

and to protect kids from themselves?
You going to tell your kids they can't go to dances because they could get doped up with a date rape drug in the punch? Or that they can't go to the fair with their friends because a drunk driver could hit them?
When do you try to protect, and start becoming over bearing?
I can understand wanting to be the parent, and telling your kids whats right and wrong, but there comes a time when you need to cut the string from your child, and let them experience for themselves what they think should be right or wrong, otherwise, they just go behind your back, do all these things, and you have no clue.
I'd rather my kid try pot with his father for his first time, than out with some random kids, where he could get caught and be arrested. At least his dad could explain how the effects of marijuana can be positive, and the other ways it can be ingested to do more postive things.

no matter what you do you can be the best parent. dosent mean your kid is going to be perfect. kids are going to be kids. thats all it really comes down too.

Do you have children that are in gradeschool at all?

My daughter is less likely to do drugs and become sexually active while in sports. I'm not looking at sports to be a cure all... but I dont see anything wrong with that being part of my gameplan to keep my kids occupied in activities...

I'm sorry if it bothers you that i hold my children to a standard that you think is unacceptable.My children will go to chaperoned dances with me picking them up after the dance is over... my kids can go to a fair.. carnival.. with an adult present... when they are the age of 16, 17 and I see that they are responsible and making the correct decisions, my mindset might be different.

And i dont want my children trying pot with a stranger or their father... and I will be involved as much as possible to make sure that doesnt happened... I'm not concerned about being the "Cool mom" or the "Friend Mom"

I was 10 when I started huffing gasoline..and I learned how to do it from school, I never knew it could kill me until I got older..they didnt touch up on that one in DARE class. At 12 I was smoking pot and drinking regularly, I can remember being about 9 years old and was happy when my doctor gave me cough medicine because I knew it would make me feel funny. even though addiction was high in our family..my mom never thought I would be one of those kids..and if she would have taken the time to talk to me and teach me..I wouldnt have had the horrible experiences that I had

This isnt about being the cool mom...... my mom wasnt the "cool mom" she always tried her best to keep us away from that life. you dont have to be the cool mom for your kid to wander... This is about being up front with your kid.Im not going to candy coat life for her it is what it is....

i see a lot of the rich kids here get wrapped up in drugs, drinking... sex... because their are no parents that are involved... the most drug busts that happen around here arent in the impoverished areas... its in the well to do areas...

when did i say I wasnt going to be upfront with my kids... if you go back and read my posts, i talk to my 6 year old about drugs.. and making bad choices

I tried drugs in 7th grade... i was on the streets and on drugs at 15...

I was in band.. flags...choir... afterschool activities until I got in the wrong crowd. So what should I do.. tell my kids its ok to do drugs?... justify that its ok as long as they do it around me?

you dont have to be rich to fall into drugs my mom was always there for me. i still smoked and what not. its curiosity.... to see what its like. ive seen the best become the worst.
