Neonatal herpes..what would you do?

posted 9th May
So I've been doing research on Neonatal herpes and alot of medical professionals advise their patients that it is OK to have a vaginal birth if the mother does not have any outbreaks during labor..

I've also read some personal stories from women who've experienced this 1st hand and went through with the vaginal birth after being told that it was safe..only to find out after their babies were born that they had still contracted the disease. The disease is very dangerous for babies and can cause damaged to the brain and spinal cord. Still Dr.'s tell women that there is only a small chance of transmisson to their baby.

Would you take the risk or opt for a C-section?

well, for me personally i have it, and my doc, hubby had i have discussed options, and i will be put on an antiviral medication at 34 weeks to prevent an outbreak before labor. if for some reason i do have an outbreak when i go into labor, i will have a c section.

Quoting (not so) pierced mama:“ well, for me personally i have it, and my doc, hubby had i have discussed options, and i will be put ... [snip!] ... to prevent an outbreak before labor. if for some reason i do have an outbreak when i go into labor, i will have a c section.”

I see, I am such a worry wart though. Like I see some women who've opted for the antiviral meds and still their baby got it. Also I hear that you should never let the Dr.'s or nurses use the fetal scalp monitor on your baby while you rin labor..it causes punctures in the baby's head and they can get it that way as well. I don't know if you knew already.
