Wemon thats been induced.

posted 27th Jun '12
So I have a question, Im being induced on saturday at 6am, does it usually take a long time after they give you medicine to make you dilate to actually start pushing her out? I'm a first time mommy and confused. Ive heard it could take up to 24 hours of being in labor for you to even push.. Ugh , Who Can tell me about there inductions If youve ever had one?

Well I think mine might had been longer b/c of the position of Zoe but mine was 19 hours long. I came in was 2 cm and 75% effaced and they broke my water around 7:30 and started pitocin. The epidural stalled my labor at 5 cm then when it wore off things started moving again. I pushed for 2 hours and had a c-section. She got stuck face up on my pubic bone. I wasn't induced with my VBAC but Harper was born in less than 6 hours and only 40 mins of pushing. No pitocin with that one at all.

Everyone is different. I was in labor for less then 12 hours BUT I was not induced. My sister has a friend who was induced...and she was in labor for 36 hours and it ended in an emergency c-section because the baby was in distress and she was not dilating past an 8.

My first was 4 hrs my second was 11 hrs. There is no rule of thumb. The more relaxed you are the easier. Stress can/will stop contractions & progression. Good luck!

Well, they attempted to induce me for 20 hours and I never progressed. I had pre-e so I ended up having a c-section, but my mom always tells me about when she was induced with me she was in labor for 56 hours...she holds that against me I think.   You never can tell though, its not something anyone can be for sure about.
