Is your kid afraid of bugs?
posted 27th Jun '12
My son has spent way too much time cooped up inside so far this summer. His best friend came over today to play and sleep over. I told them they should go play outside because it's nice and this house, unlike where we used to live, has a nice big backyard. They get not even two feet into the yard and my son just stands there. I'm on the porch like wtf. His friend is like come on dude let's go! But James just stood there. I said, umm what are you doing? Go play! He starts crying and says he's watching for bees and he's afraid the bugs will get him. I told him there were no bees back there just go play, or if he's going to be a crybaby he can come back inside and be bored. He finally went, throwing a fit into the backyard. I'm just puzzled, like why the hell is he like this? He used to love playing outside. Does anyone else have kids that act like that? What the hell do I do to fix this because I'm not having him cooped up indoors all summer hn he can be out having fun. I'm seriously about to go make him roll around in the grass or something to just get over it. He acts like the grass is gonna kill him. Btw he's 6 almost 7. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

He might have seen something on tv.. or another kid might have talked about a bad experience. You could take him to a close zoo and let him go in the insect house and see that they are pretty cool and not scary. Thats what I did with my son

Both of my children 3 and 1 love bugs. My 1 year old even tries to eat them
But maybe he seen something on TV and it scared him.
my son refuses to watch monster house because of a app on my cell.

See I don't think it was anything on tv because when he watches tv, I'm right here in the living room with him. And I haven't seen anything about bugs being watched let alone something bad happening with bugs. Idk what his deal is.

Aww, how old is she? James is afraid of all bugs it seems. Ants, bees, moths, everything! I just don't get it, lol when I was little I was such a tomboy. I loved playing outside, getting dirty, and catching bugs.

She's 9! I don't get it. I tried to convince her that moths are nothing but ugly butterflies, so that has been helping a little.

Lol yeah idk it confuses me too. I'd understand maybe if my son was like 1-2 and just didn't know what they were, kwim? Lol ugh I guess it'll be an indoor summer unless I can get him to get over it.

My son is 2 and sometimes he gets so scared because of flies and bees that he refuses to play outside. He will stand in one place and start crying. If we pass by bushes, its the same thing. I have no idea where he got this from and I just hope his fear of bugs go away.
