re: Petition: don't throw away our babies! *sign please*

posted 27th Jun '12
If it really bothers you, you can ask to take it home with you. Kind of the same way that you can ask to keep your tonsils if you have them removed. Then you can do whatever you want with your zygote/fetus. You might have to sign a waiver for it though.

There was already a bill (can't remember what state) saying a miscarriage should be treated like abortion/murder

Quoting K[♥ E&C]:" What about the women who have early miscarriage and don't even know it? You want to sign a petition to stop the flushing of clots? Because that's what it looks like."

No no no, that's not it at all. I'm saying that if the parents WANT to bury the fetus, and WANT the remains, they should be able to have the right to do that.

It's like for example, my mom's friend had a stillbirth at 20 weeks, and the baby's weight was juuuust enough that a funeral was REQUIRED. She didn't want one, she just wanted to pack away the baby things and move on, act like it never happened. Everyone grieves differently, and by no way am I saying that this woman was in the wrong.

And whoever flushed the clots down the toilet, I'm not bashing on you either. It's your choice, YOUR baby, your body, etc. You do what you want with YOUR life.

I just agree that the OPTION of burial should be there. That's all.

If I miscarried in a hospital early on and they stuck the blob in a Ziploc bag and handed it to me, I'd never ever go to that hospital again.

Actually you can't. It gets sent off to pathology. I asked if I could take my tonsils home and my appendix. Two different hospitals, both said no.

And another (maybe the same one?) outlining how there should be a proper burial for all miscarriages.

That's ridiculous. Because a woman can control a miscarriage. I'm sorry but they need to gtfo of people's private lives when it comes to their bodies.

A lot of cemeteries actually donate burial plots for stillborn babies and babies who passed before they turned one.

But WHAT is there to bury at 3 weeks? A woman goes to the ER for extreme bleeding... told it's a miscarriage. Should she bury her panties/pad that are soaked in blood? Because that early, all it is is a few clots, mainly just blood. There is nothing there to physically hold in your hand, put in a box/casket, and bury.

At five weeks it's not a baby in any way shape or form.
