posted 9th May
Hey,

I've been stewing over a question for a while now;
Has anyone ever heard or experienced having low or no HCG in their body??.

The reasonI want to know is because as some of you may not know,I was born with Spina Bifida and(REALLY REALLY)want children of my own. It just seems like its never going to happen as ive been trying for a while now andI was jsut wondering if this could be a reason.

And another question..
How doI find out ifI have low or no HCG in my bod?.

Thanks heaps ladies I might be able to sleep soundly now lol

I believe they can do very simple blood tests for this.

Q: What is the normal level of hcg in a women who is not pregnant?
A: A normal non-pregnant hCG level is under 2; however, labs have different standards as to what they consider positive. Some lab norms say a level is negative under 5, under 10, or under 25.

Usually your body doesnt produce HCG unless you have conceived. There may be trace amounts in your blood, but if you are not pregnant its usually under 2. So its perfectly normal, if you are not pregnant, to have no HCG.   I wouldnt think your spina bifida would have anything to do with not being able to conceive, unless for some reason your reproductive organs have a loss of function due to poor nerve development in that area???   But if you cycle normally I would think it would be fine. Since spina bifida is just a birth defect/nutritional deficiency, I am sure its not hereditary especially if you take extra folic acid, even before you concieve. Good luck!!

I totally agree, a simple blood test I beleive they call it a "quantitative" blood test should show you how much of the hormone you have the other one the "Qualitative" blood test shows you if it's present but not specific on the number more like yes you have t he hormone or no.. the first one is better cuz they let you know how much og it youhave. I don't think that your spina bifida has anything to do with not conceiving have you tried to see a doc before conception?.. I mean it's really recommended to get checked out by a doc before conceiving to see if tubes aren't blocked or if there is any cyst or abnormailities..... so a docs visit should be the right thing to do before conceiving... I was glad I did see a doc before conceiving (well I was diasgnosed with PCOS in my late teens) so I had no choice.... (I have infertility) so I highly recommend seeing a doc before you try to conceive just to check how things are, Oh yeah..(almost forgot) you should start pre natals with a good ammount of folic acid already just to have it in your system you never know when it comes handy..sometimes them babys like to play with our "heads" at times..LOL my son gave me a negative blood test 3 days before I got an ultrasound and BINGO!!! DING DING DING!!!!! I was PREGNANT!!!
Good luck hun and my best wishes going your way!!!!

Hey Ruthie,

Thanks so much for the advice!.

I have actually seen a doc and he gave us the all clear to go, but ifI wasnt preg with-in 12months of TTC thenI should go back,I did tell him that a few yrs back (like4 or something)I had an x-ray (which comes with the teritory of having a disability) that they found cycts on my ov's .. but he saidI should stil be able to concieve. Oh and dont worry ive started on the folic acid a month back.. so i should be all good

* I think the reasonI made up this 'i cant get preg cause of disability' thing is cause ive seen fewfriends that go preg in either first month or 2-3 months after, andI know its going to take a while 'i have a hunch' and yeah it gets me down.. soI made up this reason for not being preg*

Look hun...you could have a "hunch" like you said, be missing a leg, an arm , and eye, your freaking hair.... and still conceive. did you ever watch the woman that only had half a body?.. She totally had 2 kids!!! ..my point is...docs can be very stupid at times and waste your time...I have cysts too and had my son. And got pregers twice (you know my angels in heaven)
If teh docs gave you a clear to go...did they give you any options of things you could take to help/ Aid conception?...... I think that you could go to a vitamin shoppe or something and check out things that can help you in conceieving. They sell supplements and herbal stuff to help...... I'm the one that always says "Hey ANYTHING for a baby" as long as its legal and healthy to use ya know?......I totally hope you can get your miracle soon. Don't blame your "disability" on not conceiving....instead.. look for ways that can help you conceive. I wish you the best hun I hope I make sense....
hugs,
Ruthie
