For our second, we only got things like clothes and diapers. With our third we got EVERYTHING. I mean everything! Bassinet, swing, bouncy, $700 carseat/stroller combo (with conversion kit to double), toys, diapers, cash and clothes.

Nope, we didn't have a shower and we bought everything ourselves. (Well, we got a Pack 'N Play from family and a couple other small items.) We live(d) too far away from our families to have a baby shower and even if they were close enough I don't think we would've had one. Buying everything was obviously incredibly expensive but such is life, I suppose. At least we have everything we need for #2.

We got mostly clothes and little things. Only real big thing we got was a walker (which was used A LOT). Other than that we got like diapers/wipes, clothes, a bottle rack, pacifiers, rattles.. stuff like that. We bought our own pack n play, stroller, car seat...

wow people buying all that I want and need for MY baby haha ... strange feeling did no really know that was what a baby shower was for

I felt similar, but accepted the party after she kept offering. It was in my best interest I guess.
Most of the people invited to my shower hadn't known me with previous pregnancies. The ones that did, were not invited

I didn't have a baby shower with DS. I'm having one next month for this baby and I'm really excited about it! We're buying all of the big stuff (crib, travel system, pack n play, breast pump, etc) and I'm just registering for little stuff and clothes. Anything we need that we don't get at the shower, we'll go buy afterwords. So we're not depending on the shower, I just registered because people like to bring stuff. I'm looking forward to it more because I'll get to see friends and family that I haven't seen in over a year since I moved about an hour away to live with SO. It'll be nice to catch up with people and celebrate the baby. Lol and food, can't wait for all the food.

I had one but I didn't throw myself one, my mom and mother in law did. I got mostly everything I needed at the baby shower but we stocked up on diapers and stuff as well. We didn't expect people to bring gifts but if they did it was nice and it saved us some money on things.

haha I guess it is okay aslong as you do not have multiple babyshowers and invite the same people? I think that is the rule lol

I will just take them up on their offer this time but if I have another child I would feel horrible if they bought a bunch of stuff again like awful

Lol nope DS is 6 going on 16! Thanks! Lol it's kinda hectic because I have 3 different people throwing it. They all insisted and we didn't want to hurt any feelings so they're gonna collaborate.
