Stupid leg cramps

What foods besides bananas are good to eat to stop the middle of the night, rip your leg off with your bare hands, leg cramps that are so fun during pregnancy?

Lady my doctor told me bananas as well... eff that i ate the crap out of them and it didn't work lol! Good luck to ya though.

Nothing ever helped me...I'm starting to get them again this pregnancy...not fun. I have to be careful how I stretch when I wake up...

Also if you can.stretch your legs out before you lay down it helps loosen the muscles and they won't tense up

Pure coconut water. It has twice as much potassium in it as a banana.

that's what i did. after a while i knew exactly how i could and couldn't move to avoid them. i could even feel it coming on if i moved int the wrong way and would have to pull back real quick lol

yeah, I stretched too much yesterday and my calves tightened up and my feet were stuck pointing, it hurt like a bitch....most times I can feel it coming and go oh smurf and pull back like you said lol

I stretch my legs every night before bed. But I'm getting them to the point my leg literally like freezes, and I have to use my hand to pull my foot back to try and release the spasm. Sometimes I still can't barely move it, and the only thing I can do is get up and stand on it.

Coconut water sounds yummy though!

Magnesium is another supplement known to help with cramps. I used to get them in my calves and in my TOES! They were horrible and lasted for 15-20 minutes sometimes. I talked to my doctor and one of the things he stressed was wearing supportive shoes at all times. I started to notice it was the worst if I had spent time that day cooking or something on my feet for a while without shoes on (I'm ALWAYS barefoot at home).

Oh my lord I feel your pain. I woke up the other night with one so bad I got out of bed gasping. Trying so hard not to scream out the F bomb as my husband was sleeping. Gripping onto the side of the bed as if hanging on for dear life as I felt my calf getting tighter and tighter. I thought for sure the muscle was going to come thru the skin!!! And still felt it 2 days laster!!! And I have tried banana's to no avail!!! I was not aware this was common in pregnancy.

I used to get these leg cramps all the time when I was in high school. They went away as I got older until pregnancy, bleh. I find I get them more when I'm sleeping, but if you put a hot water bottle on a pillow under your calves it loosens up the muscles really well and seems to help.

ETA: I do the hot water bottle before bed, since it is impossible to lay on my back at all!

A midwife told me recently to drink a little bit of pickle juice not too much because it can cause you to swell and drink a glass of water after the pickle juice.

You are the 2nd person I've heard mention pickle juice. I have a jar in my fridge, lol.
