anatomically correct.

posted 8th May
Something that i have noticed among several toddlers is the differences among the words they use to refrence their private region. Some kids say "ding dong and who who" or just call them "private parts" and some just say "penis and vagina". I never really thought about the fact that kids are saying these things because that's what their parents are teaching. So I was curious what you will be teaching your children and reasons why. I personally will be sticking to the anatomically correct "penis and vagina" because honestly is it anyless shocking to hear a kid talking about their "ding dong"? I just want to be very honest with my kids about their bodies. Just curious as to what the rest of you will be doing. =)

I have not thought that far ahead lol. I doubt my husband will want our young child saying penis and vagina though. For some reason he doesn't like those words lol. He's prolly gonna want us to stick with something a little cutsier like willie etc. Oh the joys of having a big kid for a husband lol

I'll be doing the same as you. I will teach my son the actual name of his of his boy parts, so he isn't going to think there is anything wrong w/ it. I think it's perfectly normal.

my thinking exactly. i hate when a grown person lowers their voice or just flat out won't say 'penis' or 'vagina'. i don't see what's so wrong with it, and i dont want my kids ashamed of their body parts.

Kylie will say "vagina" and "penis". Even now, when I'm talking to her while changing her diaper, I use "vagina". Josh uses "cooter", which sounds ridiculous to me. Just to see a 28 year old man say "cooter". Hahaha.

I think it'll be funny to teach my sons to call their penises 'wangs' so that's what I'm going with.
Just kidding.
I've tried to teach Drake to say penis, but so far it just comes out as "pee-er"
so for now I guess it's a pee-er.

I second your decision to use the proper wording.. I wish I had.. My kids are a little confused that we say "pee pee" out of your "pee pee".. We flip flop between using the real words and peepee but it'd be a lot easier if we had just left that out.. Guess I'm just used to it since my Mom used all those little nicknames.. Winky, vaginey, piddle, etc..

I have such a potty mouth..  I cant wait to hear some of the things that will come out of her little mouth.... oh mann

I will teach her the proper words as well! I think its important to show your kids to be proud and happy and comfortable with their whole body.

We have always just called it his "doodle". He knows what it is and knows what it is for (as much as a 19mth old needs to know)...

I will and plan to tell him the real names for it..but just like using belly or tummy, instead of stomach, or bum instead of anus or buttocks...
I really dont see the big deal....

I would rather a child have a cutsie name for it until they are old enough to understand...
Imagine this, in the lign at the check out and your little ne says in front of a lot of other ppl, mybuttocks hurt.... or my penis hurts...
at sounds like they have been read a medical dictionary each night at bedtime.... But each to their own and I respect your choice.

I will not teach my son anything other than the truth.  I will tell him what his penis is and if he ever asks me what sex is I will tell him to ask his father
