Babysitting/day care prices

posted 26th Jun '12
How much do you pay for your daycare, babysitter, or in home daycare. Or if you watch kids in your home, what do you charge? How many hours are they there on average?

My hours changed at work, and my daughter is at the sitter way more than she was before. I was kinda overpaying her before I think..which was my own fault. But being she would only have her for a 4 hours a couple days a week.. it wasn't so bad. We're trying to figure out what is fair, plus I have to add another baby here soon. But I'm not going to pay more than I would pay a center to send her to her 4 days a week or whatever.

DD was in a home daycare 5 days a week for 9 hours. The lady watched three other kids and charged $125 a week.

you probably live where the cost of living is higher, I live in a dirt poor neighborhood so they dont charge much. I paid $2.25/hr or $112/week for my in home daycare we used to use, it's $3/hr or $27/day. When I used to pay stay at home moms to watch my kid I would do $3/hr.

I kept a young toddler in his home for 6 months. I had him between 40-55 hours and was paid $200-$250/week. As I provided care for him in his home, he was the only child I cared for. Had I kept children in my home where I could have multiple children, I would have not expected the same pay for one child.

ETA: I also am a certified elementary teacher and have worked in a accredited child development lab. I did plan lessons (developmentally appropriate, of course) and provided the parents with assessments.

Wow, that is cheap, lol. Yeah things are a bit more pricey here.

But when I was talking to her today, she was comparing centers prices. I was like I don't feel I should pay that much for an in home though.. because it's not structured/teaching, etc. I get you have to stay home and can't just go run out when you need to.. but still. We kinda got in a fight, but I approached it wrong, and caught her off guard. Then I kinda misunderstood what she was saying and her reaction.

But I screwed myself, because I just payed her what I payed my old sitter. But she only had her 2 days a week, and I didn't look around enough and realize I was really overpaying. It was convenient, because she lived right downstairs from us. She's never babysat like this before. So I understand her point of view that it's not fair to have her more hours, and make almost the same she already was. But I'm not going to pay more than I would pay a center. So I felt like..well than you will have no money, lol

I was born in VA and my mom said it was hella expensive even back in the 80's haha! she paid like $1200 for a one bedroom tiny apt on the third floor with no elevator, preg, then with a newborn, then I was a toddler! haha! She would have to lock me in the apt while she brought groceries upstairs because she couldnt do it with me. My dad was deployed, so she had no help, no friends, nothing.

I work at a daycare and my son can come with me for free, we charge $18 a day for under 1 year, $16 a day for 1-2 years, and $14 a day for 3 and up. And we give discounts if you have more than one child. This is in Oklahoma.

I work at a center and my kids attend. The rates are 24.50 a day for infants and 22.25 a day for potty trained and up for full day. It comes out to 47 a day and then they give you a 2 dollar a day discount for multiple kids. So for my two I pay 45 a day for full days. And I think it comes out to 31.50 a day for my two if it is less than 6 hours.

For a full time week it would be 200 I believe a week. (105 for the baby and 95 for the potty trained child).

Wow, I watch one little boy 3 days a week and get 8 an hour, so about $220 a week.
But I have been paid as much as 12 an hour for 1 child and as little as 5 an hour per child. I DEF would not baby sit for 3 an hour, but I do live in alaska... it cost more to live here.

Here we pay between $1,200-$1,700 per month, per Child. With usually A discount of about $200 for a second Child. Some will let you have a Fee of $2,000/Month for 2 Children. That also doesn't matter if it's Full time or Just After School Care, for one, or 2, or their ages. If I were to go back to work I wouldn't make enough to cover 1 Kids Daycare fees, unless I went back to a Trade!
Oh & You HAVE to pay that whether Your Kid is there Full Time or not, or even if you take a Months Vacation!

Across the Country in Quebec My BIL-SIL could pay $10/Day, aka Less than $300/month. & they won't do it.
