I do not appreciate...

posted 26th Jun '12
I really do not appreciate people assuming women get pregnant these days on purpose just to claim money from the government.

When I found out I was pregnant I was working and I was fired because I couldn't make it into work a couple of times because I was suffering from morning sickness. In the time I worked there I managed to save only 200 pounds on nat min wage. I signed myself up for Jobseekers Allowance whilst I continued to look for work but not one employer would take on a pregnant girl so I've been stuck on benefits my whole pregnancy. No, its not what I want, I would rather have been able to find a job that would take me on and accept maternity leave but that just didn't happen.

Earlier I posted a topic explaining how I felt about David Cameron and his proposal to stop all housing benefits to those under 25. I also posted the same topic on Facebook and I got a reply saying I should have not got pregnant if I couldn't afford a child-I was accused of not being able to afford a child whether or not I had a job. This particular person blamed women who get pregnant and seek benefits are the reason for all this fuss about benefits being stopped. I take major offence to this!!! If I could get a job-any job-I would have taken it but not one single employer took me into consideration. The people that are causing the government to go downhill are the people taking the piss out of the system like illegals and junkies!

Its like she's saying if you can't afford to have a child and you get pregnant then you should have an abortion. I might not be able to give my little one the best of everything, but I wasn't raised with the world dropped at my feet on a gold platter and it never did me any harm. Of course I would rather have a steady job to be able to give him the best of everything but life isn't a bunch of flowers...

Rant over.

If people get pregnant just to get money from the gov't... then they fail at life. The gov't would never give you enough money to even put a dent in the amount of money in takes to raise a child.

Agreed! There is a cut off to how many children they will count when applying for benefits.

I get income support for myself which is 54 pound a week. But my partner works a full time managerial job. So yeah your right, I just don't like being made out to be a bad person for claiming benefits when I do not have a choice.

I know nothing about that, but still even after you get benefits and monetary help... you still have a damn kid to raise. LOL.

Im on WIC.. and hate the comments people make. My husband works overtime to pay the bills but because I had a terrible time breastfeeding our first I decided to go back on it. It basically pays for bread, milk, cheese stuff that is needed to eat healthy and pays for formula if u choose to formula feed. It also pays for baby food etc for toddlers. We actually stopped going to Wal-mart because one of the cashiers called my best friend some really terrible names for needing help. We all need help. (I also helped my friend get her fired, yes the stuff she said was that bad) so dont feel bad. I do know people who do abuse the help, but I know they are cracking down on it. You know the truth, thats all that matters. It does take two full time jobs to take care of a child but when employers hear your either a mother or pregnant even though illegal they dont hire you. just dont feel bad. the fact you do means your not taking advantage of the system.

I am a marine, that still doesn't mean I don't need help, I am on WIC and it
s not just for me it's for my son. I am happy to have help. Kids are expensive but I sure didn't have them to mooch. If the government can find extra money to supply people who need it then that's great, because I would rather see that then them spend money on pointless smurf.

I worked with a girl who was trying to tell me how to get over on the government. I was looking into emergency assistance (that I never did end up needing) and I didn't want to lie. She started telling me that she has a daughter and the government paid her rent, gave her food stamps and gave her a cash allowance!! I couldn't believe she was proud of herself

Oh god no, I hate being on all these benefits. I would rather work to provide for my little one, I'd rather he grew up knowing that his mummy worked hard to raise money for the family. I hate knowing that I'm not doing all the hard work to provide for him, instead I'm having to stay on benefits. But yeah, you get people who are proud of scamming the benefits system and take advantage to the full, those are people who just don't give a smurf.

I get the same thing when I use my food stamp card. Doctor took me out of work and I've been fighting for Disability or Unemployment to no avail so we had to apply. So works 60+ most weeks and it still doesn't make ends meet. Any time I go shopping now I go at night because of the things cashiers or other shoppers have said to me. I want to scream at these people "Oh, yes I highly enjoy being on benefits so people like you can judge and embarrass me" I actually had a guy tell me that maybe if I hadn't spent my money on tattoo's that I would have had savings to fall back on. I was dumbfounded. 1st I didn't pay for my tat's my best friend did them for me and 2nd A saving's would of only gone so far with 3 kids. Some people are so miserable, I told him I hope he never ends up in a situation like mine. Keep your head up, people are just stupid!

don't worry about what others think! they are so nosy & just want to be up in everyones business! I'm sure after the baby you will find a job, but even then may have to get some help from the government for child care because everything is SOO expensive!
