Need help choosing a doc

posted 26th Jun '12
I want to have a VBAC and I plan on doing everything in power to get that. There are 2 practices that are supportive of VBACS in Atlanta. I don't have insurance so I will need Medicaid or will have to find a way to pay out of pocket.

I am in love with the first practice. Midwife centered and will let me have a water birth even with my previous c-section. I was set on this practice until they told me they just stopped taking Medicaid and their self pay is $2500.

The second choice is a single practice male OB who has an amazing track record but does not do waterbirth. The ladies on ican have said that he does many things during labor without asking (stripping membranes, manually dialating *sp* the cervix, breaking the water) I'm not ok with this, I want to birth my way.

Help please.

well I think you answered what you want which is the midwife water birth so I guess you better start saving..lol I didn't get a waterbirth but I did have a wonderful VBAC experience. But if you are dead set on a waterbirth and can come up with the money I say go for it!

I go with number one

Trust me number 2 is not worth it, my OB's did nothing in labor like that but when i didnt deliver the plecenta and had 5 doctors with there hands in my smurf in pain screaming at them and them not lissing i could have punched someone.... They all thoght i had an epi and i did not due to medical problems and they all looked at each other. One even riped part of my plecenta and i hemoraged and needed 2 units of blood. it was AWSOME... After that them ordered morphine but i was put to sleep so fast after that i didnt have time to feel the effects.

I would love a waterbirth but that is not the dealbreaker. My fears are more someone just fiddling around in my vagina without asking me.

You could always set an appt for a consult and confront him face to face before hand. I think if you lay it all out on the table he would be less likely to do those things. My OBGYN did do membrane sweeps but we talked about it beforehand so she didn't do it without my permission.

The midwives are what I want but im having a very hard time justifying the money. I mean I can go to my old OB and be cut for free under Medicaid. Not that I would but i just don't want to waste money on something just because I want things to go a certain way

I thought the same thing, until I read another thread where a lady did tell him before hand and in the midst of labor he still did it. Old habits die hard I guess.
