breast feeding!?

posted 26th Jun '12
At about 8 days PP, how much were you producing? If you tried to pump as regularly as possible... Lets say about every 2-4 hours?

Also, someone help me understand how long milk is goos for?? In the fridge...freezer...sitting out? Also, do i need to freeze it or should ibjustvuse the fridge? The latest milk i have is from yesterday around 5 pm.. Its 2 pm now.

I'm pretty stressed  also, how much is your week old eating?? And how often.. I know alll babys are different.

I don't know how much I was producing because my lactation consultant told me it wasn't good for your supply to pump right away. Normally wait at least 4 weeks.

As for milk, it can stay out of the fridge an hour before going bad. A few days in the fridge. Then up to 6 months in freezer with food, or a year in a separate freezer with no food.

My son ate every 2 hours for about 20 mins each feeding

Right, well she had jaundice pretty bad and she wasnt getting enough when i nursed her.. She got admitted into the nicu, so i had to pump if i didnt want them supplementing with formula.

I had the same issue as you, my daughter had jaundice and my milk didn't come in fully by itself so I had to top her up with formula after every feed like 60mls, also my midwives put me on domperidone sp? it helps bring your milk in. I also pumped for a couple of weeks and never got amazing results but nothing is as effective as baby encouraging the milk to come, what really worked the best was putting her to the breast every time she was hungry. I hope that helped a bit?

I was getting about 2-3oz pumping when my LO was about 2wks old. Some woman just cant pump and others can fill a bottle. It depends on the person.I was told to put pictures of baby by you while pumping or a blanket or something that reminds you of your LO.Remember to relax while pumping also.
