Cold meds for a 4 year old?

posted 26th Jun '12
I just got off the phone with my pedis office.

Cora has a nasty cough and runny nose and is just generally miserable

They said that it is probably just a cold or virus. Soup, humidifier, blah blah blah

They don't recommend any cold meds for children under 6 but I swore I've seen labels for kids 4 and older.

If they do exist, what would you recommend?

This!!! I was just about to say that. Hylands is an all natural homeopathic medicine. They have a nightime one also.

Could her cold be related to the hand foot & mouth that she has? The little cold honey elixir is amazing!

I give my kids honey lemon water (warm) when they have a nasty cough. It really help the irritation. I put in a kid size cup about 1 tablespoon on lemon juice (fresh lemon works best) and then I put in a few tablespoons of honey. I fill the rest of the cup with warm enough water to dissolve the honey and let it cool for a few minutes. They all like it alot, and it really does help them. If you call Walgreens pharmacy they will have advice as well.

I'm doubting that she ever has HFMD

She never got blisters on her hands and feet, just "patches" in her mouth, no fever after 24 hours, vomiting stopped satruday (the same day she was diagnosed)

Now she has a wicked cough and runny nose and is just pathetic

And it's not strep. She was tested for it saturday and even the lab culture came back negative

She won't drink anything but milk

not water, not juice, not soda, not crystal light, nothing

The only time i can get her to drink juice is if we are out somewhere.

The poor thing, I hope you're able to find something that makes her feel better soon.

I actually cracked it open and gave it to her in the store, and I think I see a difference already. 30 minutes, she hasn't coughed since getting home 15 minutes ago
