re: Cold meds for a 4 year old?

Hylands makes a honey cough syrup & it works. It's for 2 +. You could use straight honey if you prefer that.
I double up on probiotics for a few days & that usually kicks it right out of my son's system. Bendryl or an allergy medication can also help.

i gave her some delsym, at the advice of the phsrmasict

Cora's pedi doesn't recommend any meds at all for kids under the age of 6.

So I gave her the delsym and it's made a huge improvement in her cough

Hylands is all natural homeopathic remedy so they are safe products. Probably have less than what Deslym has. They sell Hyland's products at the all natural organic store near my home. Super old school remedy stuff.. Just saying. I swear by them

Please keep us updated if this medicine Delsym worked. I went through the same thing with my daughter. But decided not to give to her. I was very scared because the ingredient has methylparaben - which is used to produce meth the drug.

I was so frightened that to buy a medicine for my daughter I had to show my id. That I didn't give it.

Now, my daughter has occasional cough, later on she changed to profuse running nose. Now, she has nose congestion, chest congestion.

Time to go to the doctor.

Okay so the delsym worked wonderfully.

She still had some coughing, but it wasn't as hard or as often

She took her first dose at 12:15 yesterday

Sadly, at 12:20am, she woke up coughing her brains out. I thought I was going to have to take her to the ER. But I gave her another dose and about an hour laster, she was back asleep.

I can't wait to see what happens at 12:20 this afternoon! lol

marinda, lots of things are used to make Meth. It's okay to use this drug AS DIRECTED. It doesn't turn into meth in a childs body.

Great. So, it is working just like supposed to, in 12 hours increment. My daughter had the same same thing. Again, she is not having excessive cough anymore just congested cough and lots of running nose. We are thinking is allergy. But, again, grandparents, and parents had a touch of what she had.

Not sure if it is RSV, just croup, allergy. I guess with the dry weather we are having, I have seen lots of people with similar symptoms.

Thanks for the post,

In regards to the Meth part, I didn't think that in her body the Methylparaben would turn it into Meth. :-)

My concern to this ingredient is that I am sure is well known to all of you the problem of teenagers or kids being addicted to cough medicine in this country.

Anyways, it is highly traumatic to have kids coughing all night. So, when you have to go to work, and just for the child well being - it is a great alternative the medicine that works than just steam showers and so forth.

I would never think that using this medicine, as directed, in a toddler, would lead to addiction.

Yes, some kids get high on cough meds. But not my 4 year old. And using it as directed will not lead to a Delsym Addiction.

I just don't understand your reasoning for not using it in a small child. Cause she might get addicted? Take to to school and put it in her friends sippy cups? lol

I'm not trying to argue. I just don't really see your point
