Quoting Not tellin:" It is a crash diet without a long term effect. If you are looking to lose the weight and keep it off, ... [snip!] ... what happens is that your body will go in starvation mode and when you eat properly again, you gain it all back plus some. "

If you treat it as a fad diet, yeah I can see that.

I did it for 3 days to kick off a gym/healthy eating stint and it worked wonderfully. If you go back to just eating smurf then yes, it's bad. If you don't intake enough calories then yes, you go into starvation mode. But if you keep your body full and working on healthy energy, I don't see how it can be bad.

You have to follow through with being healthy.

Did you gain anything back after you stopped?

When I did it I was about 120, dropped to 115 by the end of the week (Maybe too much info for you but I smurf a lot) and a few weeks later with limited gym time settled into about 118.

I figure I'll do it again in a few weeks (so about 2 months after the first one). If I loose more weight, cool. If I don't, no biggie. If I gain any, then I just up my time at the gym.

Weight isn't super important to me - I'm usually any where between 110 and 125 during the year (summer vs. winter time). My goal is just to maintain a healthy body and that means putting healthy things into them.

I could just "cut dairy and wheats" out of my diet for a few days and eat the veggies and have it be "not a fad", but when I say I juice them I get dirty looks. There's not really a difference to me, it's what I normally eat any way. It's just a different way of getting more of the good and less of the smurf into me for a few days, then going back to how I normally eat when I'm done.

So, you did a juice fast for 3 days and then went to the gym for "a few weeks" and lost a total of 2 lbs?

Why would you recommend that? That seems like CRAP to me!

If I had done it to lose weight, sure.

But I didn't.   I did it to maintain. I go to spin twice a week and sit on my ass eight hours a day. If I didn't, I'd be gaining a smurf ton.

Please explain to me how it's so unhealthy? If i had eaten just fruits and veggies for a few days, would it have been just as unhealthy?

Juicing is actually really good for you. As long as you are juicing the right things & keeping a good range in calories.

Absolutely. The ONLY nutrient your body NEEDS at every meal is PROTEIN. Juice fasts almost completely eliminate it (a few fruits/veggies have a nominal amount of protein).

And it doesn't do a damn thing to "detox" you.

Juicing in ADDITION to a healthy diet can do awesome things, though. I juice for snacks so that I can eat smaller meals. I eat protein EVERY time I eat, though, even if it is just a handful of nuts or a cheese stick (cheese has a decent amount of protein when eaten in moderation so the fats don't get you!

Because you need a BALANCED diet. You are crash dieting and that screws with your body and how it metabolizes food. What about that aren't you understanding?

Yes they are. However, if you aren't eating a balanced meal it defeats the purpose. She is using this "juice diet" as a means to drop weight when in fact she is screwing with her body and the way it metabolizes foods. If you tell your pancreas that it will have to jump into over drive to help digest the excess sugars and then BAM the diet changes the pancreas can take a bit to adjust to "normal" eating. basically, all fad diets are unhealthy. They all mess with the body functions and at the end of the day, it is a quick way to ruin the body and make it resistant to weight loss.

Use myfitnesspal   It's a great site and there's an app if you have a smartphone. I wouldn't recommend the juice fast or any kid of fasting, I'd stick to what you've been doing. Maybe up your exercise to 30 min a day.
