Anyone ever had to deal with Impetigo?

posted 25th Jun '12
I think my gorgeous daughter has it   It started out with a small bump on her face and it is quickly spreading around her mouth. I've read mixed stories about how contagious it is. Some sites warn on it being highly contagious and others say you have to touch the lesion and then an open sore on your skin to get it. I am not 100% sure this is what she has but I am pretty certain based on the look and the discharge she had on a sore. I am trying to make a doctor's appointment for tomorrow. How did your doctor treat it? I really want him to give her an antibiotic so we can treat it and move on. Did you or anyone else in your family ended up catching it? Thanks so much!

I had it when I was 13. I got a cream for it. I think. lol It was 20 years ago. I was the only one in my family to have it. Just practice good handwashing and no contact with her sores.

Well, someone in my family had it, and the doctor said it was very contagious. My mom had to bleach all of the hair brushes cuz he had it on his scalp and stuff.

No one else caught it though, so who knows.

I think it's fairly contagious though, since it goes around wrestling teams so easily. Ew.

Where did you have it? I am so scared it is going to scar my daughter's face.

My brother had a severe case of impetigo, he ended up hospitalized for almost 2 weeks because of it. He started off with a cream, then had to go to IV meds.
The skin flakes and liquid are what carries it- so make sure to wear gloves and pull all the fabric she has touched- and sterile wash it. Steam couches, carpet, etc.

Yep, it got really bad   I think it's because he ignored it for a little too long. I wish I had the pictures on my computer- there wasn't a pinch of skin that wasn't coated in pocks... it was so nasty. His throat started to swell shut and he couldn't pee any more.. then he started showing signs of blood poisoning.
He caught the stupid thing from wrestling.

Just wanted to update in case anyone searched Impetigo. My daughter was diagnosed with it by her doctor. He wrote an oral prescription, cream, and ordered twice daily baths with hibiclense (I think that is the spelling.) Within 4 days all of the sores on her face have started to clear up and now only look pink. If left untreated he said the infection could on for several weeks and that the sooner you start treatment the better.

Thanks ladies for your help.
