Hyphenating a last name to a LO?

My baby has his father's last name. His father is on the birth certificate as-well. If we aren't together anymore (never married) and I would like to add my last name unto my baby's name, do I need father's permission? I won't be changing/taking off father's last name from my baby's, just was wondering if I could add my last name to my baby's.

You don't need his permission. Just go to the court house or where ever.

You can call Vital Records and ask. I'm not sure if you have to have their permission to add your name.

Yes you do. I changed my daughters name without her dad because he's not on the BC, but if he was, we'd both have to sign off on it or we'd have to go before a judge.

I never had to get bd permission to take is name off of the BC. When she was 2 yrs old.

It was my last name then hyphened with his. He was and still is a deadbeat dad, so I picked up the paper work and filled it out and took his off completly. Never had him sign anything.

His name was listed on the birth certificate and you were able to just remove it? How long ago was this?

8 years ago....but I am also in Ontario dont know if that makes a differece at all.
Just like mt 2 other kids haave my last name as well and their dad is on BC but didnt take his last name. I would not allow it.

I dont think so. A friend of mine just changed her daughter whole name after 11 years of having it. And her daughters dad didnt want to cause he picked her name...it was Penny she changed it to Kaylee (thats what the daughter wanted) he refused to have anything to do with it, but she did it anyway.

She just went down the office and put in a bc name change paid I think it was $100.00 or something and did it right there. She got the new one in the mail 2 months later.

Its free if you do it within the first 2yrs after birth.
