Marijuana...a gate way drug?
posted 25th Jun '12
Do you agree that marijuana is a "gate way" drug? Meaning it (can) lead to other, more dangerous drugs?
I'm watching the "effects of meth" on youtube, and many of the users started on marijuana and then went on to the more hardcore drugs (cocaine, meth, etc)....
If you think it is a gateway drug, do you think that justifies keeping marijuana illegal?

I've never smoked marijuana or cigarettes. But I've done harder stuff

I think it can be. It's not true for everyone, but a lot of people I know that are into more hardcore drugs just started by smoking weed.

No, I don't think it is.
Marijuana does not make you more likely to try other drugs, but people that are willing to try hard drugs are probably willing to try marijuana. IMO.

I heard people get board with the high and venture out to different drugs.
But that's what I've "heard".

I've only done marijuanna and shrooms. I never had a desire to try other drugs. My parents did an awesome job educating me on the dangers of meth, heroin and coke!!!

I think PEOPLE is what leads to using more dangerous drugs.. A little MJ is okay, and yes, I think it should be legal.. its WAY safer than alcohol!
I think LOTS of people , of all backgrounds and ages, are okay with having a little smoke of MJ and be content with just that... not having to move "up the ladder" to more dangerous and crazy drugs. IMO

The problem with pot is the people dealing pot see an opportunity to make more money by selling prescription narcotics, then heroin, then meth....
If it was legal, and the others were not, certified marijuana dealers would not touch the other smurf because theywouldn't want to loose their licensing.

Nope I don't.

For some it probably can be that doesn't mean everyone who does Marijuana will do harder drugs later on. It's just like some people do get panic attacks from Marijuana, as I have heard on BG, but not everyone does. I think for some it can also be addicting, especially to those who are prone to addictions.

Totally. Every time I smoke a joint the only thought in my head is "MAN! What I really need is some hydrochloric acid and ephedrine to rot my teeth out!"

I agree and I think we as parents need to do a better job of educating our children about the dangers of drugs like meth, coke and heroin. Even with prescription drusgs. So much more dangerous than weed.

I don't think it's a gateway drug, but marijuana was the first drug I tried.
