Babysitting [[Help]]

I just started sitting for my friends 1 year old daughter on Monday. I have her 8-3 Monday-Friday. Cute as a button, no doubt but she worries me a great deal.

I am sorry in advance if this is too graphic or tmi but I am worried. I did tell her Mother and they ended up taking her to the ER but got NOWHERE.

She just turned one and her skin is yellow .. it's like she's jaundiced but no Dr has ever said it was an issue. Too me, it's abnormal, then again I'm not a Dr.

She has SEVERE problems when it comes to going to the bathroom. Monday she only had 2 wet diapers, no poop. Tuesday she pooped about 5 times but she had a VERY difficult time getting it out. Now, she legit cannot get it out. She pushes SO hard, she turns PURPLE, her body goes COMPLETELY stiff, like you can't bend her legs when you go to pick her up -- NOTHING. And I go to check her diaper and she got NOTHING out. It breaks my heart to peices. Her parents took her to the ER last night, they took an X-ray of her belly, checked her ears - rehydrated her because she was dehydrated, checked her throat and sent them home. She had a Dr appt today after her Mom got home from school and all they did was give her a laxative.

My son NEVER had any issues with his bowel. How normal is this if you don't mind me asking. I just feel like it's something more then what they are saying is wrong. The fact that she's not peeing & her skin is yellow tells me there's something wrong with her liver. But why isn't anyone else mentioning the fact that the girls skin is YELLOW?! Like I said, clearly I'm not a Dr, I am just worried to death about her. It's not right, something is wrong.

Can anyone ease my mind with some similar stories?

I'm not an expert by any means but I know that yellow skin can sometimes indicate liver problems.

Have they checked her bili levels? It's nonsencical for a doctor to just ignore the fac that she is jaudice if she really is. If they aren't concerened it's probably not a big deal if her parents have said everything to the doctor you have told us & the doctor isn't concered that should be peace of mind.

You know, I'm honestly not sure whether or not they checked her bili levels. She took her to the Dr and all they gave her was laxatives. I mean, are you kidding me? She's 1. I'll talk to my friend in the morning and let her know my concerns, I just wanted to know if other Moms experienced something similar before I did. I don't want her to think I know everything because by all means, I DONT. I just hate seeing her in so much pain.

Not dismissing the posibility of something serious, but diet can cause both constipation and yellowing of the skin. Eating too many carrots can cause the skin to turn yellow/orange. Too much iron can cause constipation. If she gets no where with the er or her doc, go to a different doc or different hospital.

This is very true. Her diet sucks. But I know it's not the carrots because she's not a fan. But I do know that her diet sucks. They treat her like she's a 6 month old when it comes to food. Its pretty sad.

Any foods high in beta carotine? I *think* that is what causes the yellowing. Sweet potatoes, and, um, well, I dont know what else.

Update:

She was fine today. They gave her Miralax to put in her formula & that surely did the trick. She was good as new today.

That's good, is her skin still yellow? I know when my brother was a baby he ate so much squash that he turned orange but if she isn't eating any food that can do that then I'd still be worried. For dehyrition try giving her pedilyte. It should help.

She's been yellow-ish since birth but she has rosy cheeks. I guess when her Dad was a baby he had the same coloring. Also, her Dad has a 3 year old with another girl who also was yellowish. So I guess it runs in the family cause I asked my friend what was up with her skin and when she was a baby [not that she isn't still one] they put her through so many tests and found nothing. So she'll grow outta it I guess. Def weird though. Haha

That is weird but hey as long as she's fine it's all good. I've never heard of it before though.

I still find it weird too. If it were my kid I'd be going to every Dr possible JUST to be sure. Not because its normal for one side of their family.
