It's always a possibility. I was the persistent one that was always that Jacob would never be on the spectrum. But after he turned 5 I realized something just wasn't quite right. He wasn't catching up. He was still speech delayed(but improved) and he wouldn't learn from me, and he didn't know anything that most kids his age knew. He's made a lot of improvements but it just wasn't enough. And more of his "autistic ticks" really didn't come out until he was school age as well. Because he was around more kids and wanted to interact and be social with them but he doesn't know how.
