waiting for a second let down

The only way I have ever been able to pump a full bottle is by allowing myself to get painfully engorged, which I am noticing is not happening as often now.

My SIL suggested that if I am only getting two ounces during a ten minute pump, to stay on for about twenty minutes in total to get a second let down.


I feel like I am waiting forever. Where is this second let down? Does anyone out there have to wait for a second let down? If so, how long do you usually wait? lol

i dont know about the second let down and i nursed 3 babies.........usually you let down for milk then hind milk done.........when you engorge you are not going to make as much next go around ... have you tried different pumps or manually doing it ........plus stressing will not help.....a better suggestion would be every hour pump a little ;)

I rented the Symphony hospital grade pump for 80 bux. Now that I have off all summer, I am going to try and make it a habit to pump more. I am also considering investing in the manual symphony which is only 40 dollars. I have the pump N style, but it just isn't taking enough from me....at MOST, I will get 3 ounces from one pump unless I am engorged.

I have to wait 3-4 days for that second let down? Sheesh........

Milk is kinda weird .. i really dont think a second let down will do what you need .. you need more milk so more pumping ;) .. i mean manually with your hand ... sometime that can really stimulate more milk ..im not saying for every time just to see if it is the pump.. .. you have good pumps i do not think that is the issue.... have you tried increasing your water ..........and PLEASE pump all the time .. get some freezer bags and there ya go........OH FORGOT to ask.. how old is baby

idk...its different w different woman...but for me that was way faster then w my other kids from what i remember.....just pump longer and im 98% itll come....its hard cuz my baby was in the nicu....but after 3-4 day like i stated, my bottles went from less then half an ounce (drops) to 4 oz each.....and every drop counts!!!!
