Water?

posted 22nd Jun '12
Don't judge me.

My daughter is 6 1/2 months & I was just wondering when you momma's started to give your infant water? how much? and how often? No I have not given her water, so don't worry lol.

I started to give my kids water in their sippies about 5-6 months. I never put it in their bottles though.

She doesn't ever NEED water or juice or anything other than formula/BM until she is 12 months

I wouldn't give her any (unless the doctor recommends it)

I think like 8-9 months. She never really was interested in it until then.

Why would anyone judge you?
B started getting water at 6 months when we started solids. She's 10 months now and loves water in a cup.

You can start around 6 months but only a few ounces. They don't really need it but if you are outside and they are hot then it seems like a better drink than milk. We started with my son around 4 months, just an oz or two a day to help with his BMs under his pedis recommendation.

The quickest way to get judged is to pop off with "don't judge me" in the first sentence of your post, FYI.

She doesn't need water, but I was ok'd by my pedi to give small amounts of water with solids if I chose to at 6 months. But it isn't necessary at all.

My son refused to take sippy cups/bottles for the longest time.. I think he was close to 13-14 months before he even tried water from a sippy cup..

I introduced water around 6 months old, he has a bit with his meal. When it is a hot day we take it everywhere with us and I let him have regular sips.
