urgent care or ER?

posted 22nd Jun '12
I have been bombarded by sickness the last couple weeks. I had the stomach flu, it was god awful. I know I was pretty dehydrated by the end of it. I made it my goal to drink lots of water. I then went and got a bad cold. That seems to be getting way too close to pneumonia for my liking. Tons of green and brown sputum. Hurts just sitting her typing this. This I just noticed today. In the last few days it was just a really strong dry cough. Out of the blue today it took a turn for the worse. I took mucinex and tussin today to get some of it out, leaned over streaming hot water...doesn't seem like much is helping...just easing the symptoms.
I couldn't get to urgent care today because the wait times have been nuts up here and my SO had to work tonight. Gonna go and get checked out when SO gets off work after 7am. I def do think I am dehydrated, I tried to drink lots of water, after I got the cold I slipped a little with it because my throat hurt so damn bad cold warm or hot beverages, and looks like I am as bad off as after my stomach bug. :/ Should I go to urgent care and let them know about the dehydration and my lungs and see what they can do?...or just go right to the er where I can be put on fluids and sent away with an antibiotic if need be? I try not to go to the er unless its diar straights but by morning idk how much more hacking up smurf I can take. I don't have a primary care but after the last few weeks, I will be getting one!

I would say go to the ER now so you can get fluids. However I also am sick and wishing I could go in right now, so that might sway my answer. I think I have influenza. I had it twice in one year a few years ago (bird flu and then swine flu.) I have he same symptoms and worse, my nearly 2 year old is sick.
Dehydration is serious, mama. Go get checked out. If you need the fluids, then hey can give it to you and maybe give you some antibiotics.Fell better soon.

Thankyou very much. I think I will go to the ER. I hate going to the doctors but I am sick of feeling this way. So tired, my head hurts constantly and my fingers have been going numb here and there. I have been dehydrated a couple times, I know the symptoms. I had walking pnuemonia before too. Id say at the moment thats what it feels like. :/ My SO has the car so I am gonna get off here in a second wash up some bottles, pack the diaper bag, shower and wait for SO to get home to take me to the ER. hopefully in 3-4 hours some of my symptoms will subside.

Oh I hope you feel better too btw! Never had any real flu. So many people use the term flu for a head cold but I have been told the actual flu in its varying forms is alot worse.

Thanks! Hope you got some answers and relief.
Yes, the real flu makes you want to die. I was hospitalized for a day with the first time I got it and out of work for over a week. Since I got the flu shots after that time (was stubborn before and always refused them since I was not in a high risk category) the following times have been more mild. Always get the shots! They may not prevent you from getting it, but at least they lessen the severity of it. I found out over 20,000 people die each year in the US from the flu!
Anyway, I hope they were able to tell you what you have and get you some meds. It's torture to be sick in the summer. Take care.
