my 2 year old!

posted 22nd Jun '12
His sleeping pattern sucks! He sometimes goes to bed at 8pm, then sometimes not til 11! He never has a set schedule cause if we try to lay him down, I have to go lay with him until he passes out or he screams and wont stay in the room. He has been this way for like a year! Hubby and I are getting very sleep deprived! Also he has delayed speach and doesnt communicate well at all. He also wakes up SEVERAL times a night but only if i put him back to bed. If I let him sleep in my bed with hubby and me then he will stay asleep and sleep in til like 9am! but if I put him back to bed I am doing that ALL night. He will go back to sleep but wakeup within 30 mins and come running back to our room. Its to the point where I just let him sleep in my bed, which wouldnt be a problem but lately my 4 year old daughter has been coming in there too! There is not enough room for all 4 of us to comfortably sleep together   so my hubby ends up going to the couch and trying to sleep which is terribly uncomfortable! What can we do to get them to sleep all night and not in OUR bed!?? Anything is appreciated! HELP!

Your 4 year old should be able to understand well enough that her baby brother needs to sleep in your bed, & she doesn't because she's a big girl.
Other then that, I would just let him sleep in my bed. Even if that meant hubby buying a second bed for the bedroom or living room. I would do what it took to get through a rough patch of sleeping. It's not the end of the world to co-sleep

My boys are all that way....but they are autistic. We give them melatonin to get them into a REM sleep. No side effects....except a well rested momma.

oh I LOVE it and coslept when they were younger but I am very claustrophobic and cannot be scrunched up tight LOL so as long as its just him and I, I am ok   Yes my daughter does understand but it makes me feel bad   He gets away with alot more than she does. I am constantly reminding her its because shes a big girl and she knows better and she has to set the example. I need to get passed it making me feel bad though! lol. But yes I need to bring up him getting a 2nd bed! I also get home from work at 1am every morning and DS likes to wake up at about 2 or 230 so I get like maybe an hour of sleep before he wakes up and comes in there. It just sucks lol

We give him melatonin too but sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt but thats only to get him to sleep, he wakes up in the middle of the night no matter what! Maybe the dosage isnt enough? He has ADHD and they arent able to tell if he has autism yet, the phsyciatrist said he doesnt think he does but he wants to test him again at age 4 because he can see characteristics of it

I understand.... that's normal though, I would probably feel bad too.
Does your son still have a bottle or paci or anything like that during the night?
The only reason I ask is because my son slept pretty crappy too around age 2.... but once I FINALLY took the bottle away around 2, he slept perfectly ever since then...

Nope hes never had a paci and actually doesnt even go to bed with a sippy anymore. He will be 3 in August so I just feel he should be getting old enough to SLEEP THROUGH! lol but He ALWAYS wakes up SUPER thirsty and if anyone leaves water out or something you can always hear him gulping it while walking to our room!

Call the pediatrician and ask the dose....or call Walgreens. IF it is autism....there is not much you can do about it   That is just how they are. My oldest son is 8-1/2 now and still struggles with it.
Another thought for you....My children are ALL ADHD. Their brains are wired SO much differently. Our pediatrician suggested caffiene (!) therapy with my now 6 year old. We started it when he was 3. Their brains do the exact opposite when given stimulants (which is all that ADHD meds are anyways). We gave Hayden a can of coke the 1st time....he fell asleep instanly and slept for HOURS...we now know that 3 oz is all it takes ;) For him anyways. Perhaps near naptime try some caffeine? I know when desperate for sleep I have tried it all.....good luck!

Thats the thing! I would love for him to nap! He hasnt napped since he was 1   but he always gets SO sleepy around like 1 and if i let him sleep, he wont pass out til like midnight so I stopped the naps :/. But I might try the caffiene! I just bought some coke so I will try it! Thank you atleast it is something else to try! I also have ADHD so I mean I understand my son but my husband doesnt and gets irritated. But he also gets irritated at me. I have never been on meds for it and I NEED them lol. But since hubby cant handle it, it stresses me out and makes me crazy!
