Period cramping at 25 weeks
posted 22nd Jun '12
I'm 25, almost 26 weeks pregnant and just a few days ago I was getting really bad period cramps that wouldn't go away. I tried increasing my water intake thinking maybe I didnt drink enough that day and laid down on my left side. Woke up next morning and they were more intense so later on I went to ob triage to get checked out like my Dr requested. I had one contraction while on the moniter and was given a shot to stop them. I had a short 4 hour shift next day at work and I was on my feet the whole time. Started cramping bad again and had horrible back pain. I have a 7 hour shift in the morning and I'm scared to cramp that bad again. I don't want to over do it and have more contractions.. has anyone else experienced this? I'm a first time mommy and am new to this site. I have nobody to ask so I'm hoping for some help. Thanks in advance.

I don't understand why you'd get a shot for ONE contraction?
Its probably round ligament pain

Contractions felt like realllly bad period cramps. I never was In horrid pain they were just annoying I didn't realize I was in labor. I'd call the Dr if you get them again.

That's something you should ask the dr, not me. I didn't ask for it that's just what they gave me. And it was never horrible cramping for me either, just felt like a bad period. I will call him if I keep getting them. Just don't want to over do it and risk having her early.. Thx for ur reply!

The cramping could be causing the neasea. Did they test your urine for a uti?

They did test my urine for infections and stuff and that came back negative but she did say there was some blood in my urine.. they would have known if I had a UTI straight away right? I have no issues urinating abd theres no burning. They sent off my urine for further testing and said my Dr would be in contact. As long as I'm not too active, I dont cramp too much. I'm kind of stumped.

The dipstick normally tells you at least if there is an indication of infection but they send off cause sometimes there is nothing to alarming though it's not an emergency thing.
I'm surprised they aren't doing more of a follow up if they gave you an injection to stop the contraction.
I'd be asking them more like what do I do if I get them again? I'd also be asking for an ultrasound to see what the baby is up to I had a scan today cause it may have been possible I had a slow water leak they checked the cervix is still long and closed and checked me last night for dialation.
I'd be concerned that they gave you an injection to stop the contraction without a follow up plan

She just told me to keep my appt with my Dr. But its not until July 10th. I had been having thick discharge along with the cramping that day. But I dont have it any longer. I totally forgot what the meds were called.. I got it in my arm and it made my heart race and I was very jittery. It stopped the cramping though. She checked my cervix and I was closed and thick still. She did a culture to see if there was a protein I think she said that indicates you're going into labor. Hmm. I'm just so confused.

I personally would want to be checked out sooner then that. She sounds like she's tested things good but I'd be worried that they sent you on your way and your still in pain. I'd get checked again if they keep coming.
