26 wks...docs already talking induction??

posted 21st Jun '12
I am 26 wks..I went to my doc today, and the baby is jsut over 2lbs already. THey say he will be 9+lbs estimate. I told the docs from the get-go that I want a natural, drug-free birth and no induction unless medically necessary. They agreed and have been supportive until today. The nurse told me that considering my second son was 8lbs .5oz and stopped growing at 37wks (He was taken early bc of this), they would evaluate the situation in 10 wks at how big the new baby is. BUT, if he is on track like they think, then they want to do an early induction instead of waiting and him being too big and causing a c-section...What do you ladies think??

when you say that they took your second son early do you mean that you had a c-section? It's strongly inadvisable to have an induction after a previous section. If that's not the case then I would still find another doctor, size is no reason to risk a baby's health with early induction.

I agree! I was induced two days before my due date and my first daughter weighed 9lbs 9oz; though it ended in an emergency c-section. Second daughter was taken a week early and still weighed 8lbs 15oz. I say find a new doctor or put your foot down. They can't force an induction anyway.

I was just reading a home birth of a 13 lb baby, surely you could do an 8 lb baby. I would run far far from your doctor. A 'big baby' causing a c-section is highly unlikely, and just wants your $$$$.

I woud find anew doc,no matter how big they are their brain is not fully developed until 38-39 weeks, I wanted to be induced early with my last little girl,at our 36 week emergency hospital trip they did an ultrasound and the lady told us she was measuring so big she was weighing 8 lbs already, and if we waited till 39 weeks like my doc wanted she would be 10 or more, yes she was right she was 10.3,but if they would have took her early her brain would not have been fully developed and she probally would have had more problems in the nicu then she did being nig, we spent an extra 3 days in the hospital cause se was in the nice, only for a breathing problem when she first arived, and because she had a heart murmur, but just them assuming your baby is going to be too large and they want to take him/her early,i woudl tell them no, a c-section is not a big deal at all.

Quoting 5 blessings so far....:" did the doc mention any specific condition u have that would cause u to not be able to deliver a bigger baby?"

No, and it was the nurse today no doc. But She said that she didn't think that my body could handle delivering a baby that big, and it was healthier to avoid a c-section if possible by induction? I was induced with the last two but from different docs. My first was almost 3wks late, and the second stopped growing at 37wks and they tool him at a day shy of 39 bc he wasn't making progress. I HATE PITOCIN!! So I really wanted to do this one natural.

I agree with the Other person who said to find another doctor. If your body is big enough to deliver a baby, don't let them tell you you cannot. I have a girlfriend who delivered a 12lb baby naturally with no induction or c-section. She was just fine. A lot of Dr. in USA want to be in charge of your baby and your body. You do have rights.

My son was 1 lb 14oz at 19-20 weeks.
At 40 weeks he was 9lbs 13oz.

I had a vaginal unmedicated delivery.

Tell your doc to go F himself and start checking the yellow pages for a new doc!

Through induction, never had a c-section. I just want my baby healthy.
