walking????

posted 21st Jun '12
my 16 month old (almost 17 months) isnt walking yet, but for the past couple of days he will take either a step or 2 steps on his own. How long do you think it will take him to start walking.
He is in physical therapy for a gross motor delay...

I wouldn't worry too much, he is getting the help he needs. He will get there in his own time. My son was delayed in gross motor, didn't walk til 19/20 months old. Now he's right on track at 2.

oh really?
Did your son have any other delays? My son also has a cognitive delay and he hasnt been diagnosed with anything yet but they told me he could possibly have sensory issues

what is st?? Speech therapy??
like my older son started walking at 11 months but he showed no sign (no taking steps, no standing along or anything) so you never know with your son he might take you off guard like mine did

Yeah he was born with CHD and DiGeorge syndrome. He is delayed in development, learning and speech/ social.

He had a big gross motor delay, didn't sit unassisted til 10 months. Crawl til 14 months and walk til 19/20 months.

ATM he is seeing a speech therapist every week. And physical and occupational therapy is every 6 months.

Thanks, yeah it would be a lot easier. I'm just hoping that his therapy helps him, he's only been doing it for 2 weeks and so far he's been making a little progress.

He's doing great. Everything has been repaired and he won't need another surgery til around 12 years old.

i know therapy has helped my son soooooo much. He has made sooo much progress and he loves it now.. when we first started, he could only tolerate 15-20 minutes and then he was done.. now we can go for the whole hour!

My little brother didn't start walking till around that time too!

I'd say if he is starting to take steps it will be in no time. My son once he took his first steps..it wasn't to long till he was walking and then running hahaha
