Relocation

posted 21st Jun '12
I am stuck in a dilemma. For the first time in nearly 6 years, I am financially stable. SO and I just bought a 4 bed mobile home, a van, a few nice things for our house, and paid down a lot of our debt. My credit score is up over 120 points from November and so is working on his. Sounds great, right? The problem is, so is working two jobs and I'm working too. Plus, I'm in school.
So was offered one of two possible management positions. One in Virginia and one in south Carolina. He would be making about 7 dollars more than he is at his full time job. I have four children and am in the middle of a custody battle with one child. I'm at an impasse. Stay here in our current situation or move far away mid 2013. What would you do?

First you need to deal with your custody issue. You can't move without permission.

Right. Final hearing is September 17. We wouldn't be relocating until around may 2013. So itll have to go to court, regardless

If you have things squared away before September, or if you know for sure that relocation is a real possibility....you can always include that in your custody order.

My lawyer won't do that. He said that with as messy as this has been, I need to focus on majority custody then get a lawyer that specializes in relocation. I'm oddly okay with this.
