D&C after surgical abortion?

posted 21st Jun '12
Is it really necessary? I was in the ER yesterday for cramping and seeing spots, and it turns out a bit of tissue didn't make it out. Can it come out by itself? I'd really like to avoid more procedures and just have this in the past now...

Sometimes it will depending on how much there is. From my understanding most doctors prefer to get it out as soon as possible due to infection.

You could develop an infection and you could lose your uterus. If I was told there was retained tissue and they recommended it, I'd have it done.

I answered u yesterday. eventually your body will reject it. Or at least mine did. It took 3/4 weeks after the procedure though

If you don't get it done and that tissue stays in there you could get an infection in your uterus which could result in a hysterectomy if worse came to worse. If I was you I would go get it done.

that's pretty much worse case, but it can be very serious if an infection develops and it's not taken care of right away. IMO, it's better to prevent something like that from happening, if possible.

yeah. I switched doctors shortly after though because she wasn't concerned about anything that hard me concerned. MY HCG levels kept going up and down and they told me it was normal and would level out eventually.

that is not normal at all for your hcg to go up. the only time that should happen is if there is a placenta secreting the hormone or if there is a malignancy, like a choriocarcinoma. If there is still part of a placenta, that would explain the hcg rising. that should be taken care of asap though.

Not to scare you , my cousin had tissue that didn't come out all the way she tried to ignore it and let it pass. She got a BLOOD infection. It went to her spine and the clots nearly paralyzed her from the waist down. She can't walk by herself anymore.
